Well if you go over 3.5 you will need a sye. Using a transfer case drop will be a bad idea 1) may not work, 2) puts a lot of stress on your motor mounts.
I reccomend the rc 3" kit.
First time install of a lift is a daunting project. Took me and a buddy 2 days. Preperation is key, gota have a 21 socket, t-55 is helpful. PB BLAST OFTEN prior to lift. Rent a spring compressor from autozone.
And remember.... This is your suspention system. Its not the thing you want to cheap out on because without it, your kinda screwed.
YouTube has an install video for the rough country 3" add a leaf kit. Watch it its a quick demo of what you'll need to do.. they make it look sooo easy though haha

Ok so dumb question what is a SYE and why doesn't RC reccomend it when you're lookin on their site at their recommendations for that 4.5" kit I already have a 2" lift kit I'm just not sure that a 3" lift will satisfy me as far as ground clearance and trail capability. I want the most I can get without breaking the bank as I said before I am on a tight budget and I could purchase the add a leaf kit with the intentions of buying the leaf pack later I'm also still a one wheel peeler and man that burns me up and everything I've read about the 00-01 xj's the d30 lp and the d35 are CRAP ! So what axles will be direct bolt ons with no mods and what do they usually run at junk yards. Look guys I am dead serious about makin a very trail capable jeep NOT A MALL CRAWLER LOL

Is that why they give you the transfer case drop kit in that lift package ? Can I get by without buyin a SYE untill I can afford one. And will I just be limited to light duty wheeling till I can get a SYE or no wheelin till i can get the SYE Because ill have to buy new drive shafts too right ? And when doing a lift such as a 4.5" or any other is it wise to do polyurethane bushing kit?

Alright, I'm thinking of switching from the RE I was originally going to go with to a Zone 3"... It comes with shocks, coils, ubolts, and full leaf packs... What's missing? It's really tempting, however, to go with the AAL since it's $200 cheaper... my rear leafs are fine as is, no sag. Does anyone know whether or not I would have to get a track bar at 3" or would stock be fine? SYE?

2.5L I4 3" lift 31x10.5, poor response, want to regear
I have a '95 2.5L carbureted I4 with a 3" lift sitting on 31s right now. It's my DD and weekend puddle splashed. I can't stand the response as I'm usually having to ride the clutch in order to maintain momentum during climbs and thick mud. On HW I usually find myself in 4th for long inclines. I know the 2.5 comes stock with 4.10 gears, but I'm at a cross roads with regearing. What I need to know is can I replace the ring and pinion without having to get a new carrier, should I beef up my axles (if so, Dana 44 or 8.25), and finally, should I go 4.56 or 4.88 gears? My 31s are only a few months old but I may go up to 33s when the time comes to replace them. My rig is strictly for mud so I need 4 high doing all the work. I'm thinking 4.88 gears ( with possible 33s in mind for the future) and Dana 44 from a JY donor. I'm just uncertain about the carrier. Please help

I believe your D30 and the D44 have a carrier break at 3.73, so your front axle is already on the numerically high side if you have 4.10s. XJ D44s aren't common, so you'd probably be better off with a late model C8.25 (no carrier breaks) or a F8.8 from an Exploder. 8.8s can be had with 4.10s, disc brakes, and limited slip, but it isn't a direct swap, and I'm not sure about carrier breaks.
