I decided on a 2"(i think) home brew budget boost. Ima do YJ v8 could an insulators up front which should do right at 2". Though the back is where I am not sure what to do. I believe my rear leafs are bout done for. How do I left the rear? Direct bolt ons would be sweet but it doesn't have to be.

You suggested about rear axle upgrades like an 8.8 and talked up the 8.25. The 8.25 has leaf perches on it and to make it work it would need a decent amount of fab work to work with the GC coils out back, control arms, and shock mounts.

Is there some formula or maybe somebody just knows already. With around 5" lift is it OK to cut off the axle shock mount and re-weld them (or similar) at the height of the axle tube? Or maybe different shocks are required? They hang super low and I've seen them torn off a couple times already. Educate me.

There isn't a formula per say... If you move the mount up 2" you need to account for the changed 2" of travel in the shocks.
