OK I have a noob questions (sorry everyone has to start somewhere). I recently bought a 93 with a RE 5.5" lift and I'm wanting different wheels. They Jeep currently has 285/65/16 on it with Jeep icon wheels. I'm wanting to get a set of Soft 8's or similar wheels what back spacing should I look for? Im actually having a hard time finding Soft 8's in 16" with the proper lug pattern. The tires are next to new so I'm gonna rock them for a little while. I'm also curious if I'd be better off just waiting on wheels till I need tires and swap to a 15" wheel. Any insight will be appreciated this is my first Jeep so be kind lol. Thanks

the answer to your question (in my opinion) is yes. 15" tires are cheaper too, with more selection.

Those tires are essentially 33x11.5, if you plan on going with a 33x12.5x15 when you swap i'd go with a wheel that has between 3.75-4" of backspacing.

Black rock has a 16" soft 8, and they include center caps. Thats what I got on mine. I think I got them from morris4x4 or quadratec w/ free shipping. 16x8" wheel, 5x4.5" bolt pattern, 4.25 BS. Check out pics in my build thread if you want to see how they look.

As far as selection, I wanted to run a 32" tire, and there are 10x as many to choose from on a 16 rather than a 15. Also, I personally like the slightly narrower tires offered on the 16" wheel (10.5 for a 32", 11.5 for a 33"). They tuck better.

Another noob question - I just installed a 3 inch rough country lift on my 97 Cherokee SE. I took a test drive and started hearing a clanking noise that sounded like it was from the front driver side wheel. I got the jeep back up on jack stands and checked the lug nuts, had to tighten them very slightly (there was no play in the tire/wheel itself). Went back out and the noise was still there albeit slightly less. I've torqued down lug nuts fairly tight (~100ft/lbs - but I'm not completely certain as I don't know how accurate my HF torque wrench really is). Any ideas on where/what this noise could be? It feels regular with every revolution of the tires and only dissipates when i apply the breaks or slow down to below 5mph. Hitting bumps and turning left has not impact, but turning right makes the noise slightly louder. Also - I'm running the stock track bar - I was considering redrilling as funds are too low for an adjustable tb at the moment. Thanks in advance for the help.

Cracked rotor, loose caliper bracket, brake rotor dust shield is bent against the rotor. Those are the only things I can think of.

Get the wheels back off the ground and spin the wheel by hand and see if you can find it.

I used sway bar drop brackets, stock sway bar links. I'll get the wheels off tonight and check the rotors/calipers etc - that makes sense with the sound and frequency of the noise. Thank you all for the suggestions, i'll let you know how it turns out.

Hey, so I noticed that in some pics of lifts guys have there tires pushed way out, is there a kit or an easy way to do that? Another thing, I want height with my lift, I want a 4.5", but if I go mudding and turn round and round doing donuts im I way more likely to tip my jeep? I want height for looks and mudding, not really rock climbing, but I dont want to have to go easy around the turns. Is that what a wider wheel base can do? Help me out.
