That's a front shaft. He probably replaced the ujoint with a greaseable unit.

Not adjustable and I knew they could be longer. Don't understand how the driveshaft is the first thing to bind out of my suspension... New LCA's will be ordered tomorrow

Try adjusting the castor adjusters on the lca mounts on the body side first. They might be set all the way in. Where'd you get the lcas

They're generic fixed LCA's for 3-4.5" lift, probably RC...

How long are they? I have rc lcas and they are fine. I can measure them real quick, just the tube arm portion straight across over the bend.

Mine are also 16.5in eye to eye. Try the castor adjuster.

So what your saying is I should just get a three inch and ill be good? I don't mind trimming fenders. Just thought that going to 4.5 wouldn't be that big of deal. I was planning on putting a transfer case drop, adj track bar and stronger steering stabilizer but that's not enough? I have a friend with 4.5" on his and it runs fine without sye and new driveshafts. He just got the basic 4.5" put her on and no problems. I really want the 4.5 but if its a bad idea well it's a bad idea.

Not a bad idea, but a bigger investment.

With pre-97 XJs, you might be able to get away with only a t-case drop and no SYE. It always depends on the jeep, they're all different! I have a 96 with 3" and no SYE/t-case drop, so if I went 4.5, I'm pretty sure only a drop would have worked.

If you don't mind putting the money in, then go for 4.5, but I went with 3" myself and honestly, I don't see myself going higher any time soon, it's perfect for my needs, and doesn't cost a ton of money. I figured 1.5 inch more (on paper that is, maybe it's really 2 inch difference in the end), I'm going to be able to do pretty much the same thing a 4.5 inch XJ will do, I will be fine with 31s so no significant loss of power and not so bad in mpg loss, etc.

But in the end, you make the decision, so go with what makes the most sense.

and does anyone know where to find longer sway bar links cheap im not ready to spend 100 + on quick discos?
I have a rough country series one, already did the front now im getting ready to do the back

You need to replace your u-bolts with new u-bolts everytime you remove them after use. The new leaf should only be about 1/4" thicker. So, not much longer.

Cut the links and extend them.

Kk thanks a lot appreciate the input. I think I'm gonna get the 4.5 with just tcase drop adj trac bar(I think comes with kit) and steering stabilizer. It's a work in progress so if in the end it doesn't feel right well, ill add more stuff (sye,long radius arm..). If all ends well ill post my build for people like me in the same debate LOL.
