Correct.
Or use the YellowPages to find your local salvage yards and call them.
Be prepared to pull the diff cover to inspect the internals before investing.
Also there is an option of LSD or open carrier.

If you want it to be cheap, online axle orders are not for you. If you don't know how to do this stuff then do something to build your confidence and then try it. My first real mechanical project was the head gasket on my 90, I had no experience but was determined and for 50$ I could drive my jeep again. Use Google, find write ups, I know I personally don't mind answering questions but you gotta get some knowledge on your own too!

An 8.25 might be better for you. Cheap, no modifications, bolts in..

Stock gears are 3.55.
This is all you need for the 8.8 swap...

and an axle.
You can find 10 of these axles for 79.99 all day long at LQK in Greenville on White Horse Rd.

I meant to say 3.55 gears. I'm wanting to upgrade my rear axle because I have 35's and don't want my stock axles to mess up when offroading or even dd.

Axle Assy, Rear - Straight D To D Price: $99.99 Core: $35.00
LKQ currently lists 28 Ford Explorers of various years currently in stock.
If you go on a holiday weekend it's 50% off.
So, you're looking at $100 + $140 (for the Ruffstuff kit) and time for someone to set it up.
(Assuming you get one in good shape, with decent brakes and matching gears.)
Hell, if the price is right I'll go find you one, order the stuff and install it.

Lowrange2, sounds good I might get you to do that cause like I said I don't really have time doing anything between work and school everyday. Which would you prefer me to get the 8.25 or the 8.8?
