once the top of the coil is below the bump can, the coil will fall over and out, regardless of a retaining clip on the bottom.

For limiting straps, whats better, running 2 straight down or 2 from the center out

my coils don't fall out with the retaining clip. they come below the bump stop tower but then they go right back on where they belong. thats not saying they won't fall out for some reason but this isn't the point. we're talking about just unseating a coil.

from what people say, two straight down on the front axle and i know i've seen people run just one in the center on the rear axle.

Got so much flecks a 6" coil get's past the bump stop tower. Yeah.

If I ever get around to it I'll run a limit strap from the inside of the frame rail down to my lower long arm.

exactly what i was talking about. it would take some major regearing tho and probly need to find a way to up my horsepower and torque so i wont take ten minutes to get up to highway speed and blow a motor tho huh? I was just lookin around work and noticed that we got alot of old heavy equipment axles lying around that we dont use.

Cab and chassis axles used to be narrower than dually axles .

I'm gonna guess they make 2 gear ratios for those axles. At any rate, they probably cost more than a built D60...

I've always wondered if someone had a long arm radius kit with no limiting straps and they went over a jump. The front axle would only be held in place by a single TRE, shocks, brake-lines, u-joint. Would that be enough to hold it in place or would the whole thing just give way and fold under. That would be hilarious. I'd love to see that.

It wouldn't be held by all those things. It'd be held by whichever one is most limiting. Of those, I'd choose shocks in my build. If you're using brake lines to limit your droop, you deserve to taco your axle.

Like you implied, anyone jumping their rig should have limit straps. I didn't have straps on my MJ, but I already knew my limiting factor was the LCAs hitting the shock plates.

So need some help. Pulling the trigger on a rough country lift with new rear leafs instead of add a leaf.

Do I do 4.5 short arm lift for 1200 installed now and ad long arm kit next year
OR
4.5 long arm kit for 2100 installed

I would do the 6.5 but then that ads sye band driveshaft to price and I can't do that.

I'm kinda poor and am leaning towards the 2 stage deal.

But will I lose a lot of cash by doing that?

Any help would be awesome.

Why are you going to 4.5" if you are trying to be cheap? You will definitely need and SYE and drive shaft at 4.5".

Rough Country is a horrible brand and I would advise you not to buy from them.

Wait, save your money, buy a good kit the first time around. If not youll be wasting your money.

There's a good chance you're gonna need an SYE at 4.5". Also, check out Zone Offroad lift kits. Many of us aren't fans of RC.

What's the sye install like? I hate the idea of throwing that much cash in an 87 I basically got for free. But the thing runs amazing and has new tires and interior.

Basically taking your transfer case completely part and putting it back together.
