Hey guys,
I recently got a 95 jeep cherokee as part of a trade, and have been tinkering with it, and been bitten by the lift bug, but I was thinking and decided that it would be easier to sell this jeep and buy one already worked on (since I don't know a lot about them, and it would be cheaper)
Anyway, I came across this one:
http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/4312464694.html
And went and took a look at it today. Man, this things is crazy high. Im 6'1 and I had to really hoist myself up in it. Anyway, it has a 8-9" lift with long arm, It's a 99 Cherokee with 105 thousand it's 14.5 inches over stock with 36 inch super swappers r practically brand new. It has 4.56 gears with a front locker it also has a slip yoke eliminator with a brand new clutch, Straight 6 , 5 speed
He is asking 4500 for it. With all the stuff it has on it, it seems like a great deal (needs a new locker in the front )
But my question it, with such a high lift and large 36" swampers, should I expect any issues? I was planning on getting DD tires/rims as to not eat away the swampers til needed...
But the height...wow. Most the parts on it were Rusty's brand, as it was etched into the metal parts.
What are your thoughts? Should I run towards or Run away??

It looks nice and all... probably did not beat on it too bad. what axles does he have on it? And is it just me or is the back side a lot lower than the front?

A friend if mine just gave me some 36x12.5 super swampers I plan on putting on my jeep after I trim the fenders.. Already has a 6 inch lift.. And I have a spartan locker in the front axle... Was wondering can I run 36s with stock axles? I've seen two sides saying that it's a bad idea and people that say they've never had a problem.. Lemme know what you guys think.

Care to elaborate on y?
Yeah, I noticed that in the pics too. Didnt notice it in person though, he said it has lift blocks on it, ( 2 inches worth) but I didnt ask if it was font, back, or both.
as it sits right now, its 30 inches off the ground, and according to Pa lift laws, (guessing it would be the "car and suv" category, the max height it 22" so....problem there :/
I was thinking maybe if I change the wheels to 31" and take out the lift blocks, that would drop it about 7 inches, right?
Would 36 new swampers be a hard thing to sell, due to them being 36" ? Doesnt seem like anyone uses that big a tire
also, he did recently break the front locker, and im wondering if it was because of the massive tires? Is the the part that would break?

OK, so I searched for a while and cant find a direct answer so I'm asking in a new reply.
2000 xj, 2" Superior budget lift (spacers in front, shackles in back) and ProComp E2000 shocks. After the install I get a little rear end wiggle from a standing start and I hear a rattle around the transfer case. It goes away as soon as I get rolling. Im assuming its the joint at the transfer case binding slightly. I also get some mild vibration on sweeping curves at around 30mph. So I've seen some wedge shaped shims in various degree's from Iron Rock offroad. It appears to rotate the rearend and raise the rear U-joint location and reduce the joint angle at the transfer case. I'm hoping not to have to buy and install an SYE kit that costs more than the lift and shocks did. Oh, its riding on new stock size tires. Will the shims get rid of the vibrations?
Thanks for the help!

The shims are for when you install the SYE kit with a CV driveshaft. Shims with the stock shaft will put your u-joints out of phase, which could make the vibes worse. Some guys have had luck with shims on stock shafts, but it is certainly not good practice nor recommended. With only a 2" lift, I am a bit surprised you are having driveline issues, though I know the new XJ's are more prone to these types of issues. Although best option is an SYE, a mild ( 1/2" approx) transfer case drop might suit your needs.
Thanks again.

Anyone seen these ion alloy style 71 rims ? http://www.quadratec.com/products/92616_1X0X_B_PG.htm I just found them and they look exactly like AR outlaws 2, but cost cheaper. Think I might pick one up as I have outlaws 2 on right now but I need a rim for a full spare and seems like this ion 71 will match pretty good with my outlaws.

2" lift and wheel hubs
I just bought a used XJ that had a LOT of problems and have slowly taken care of them. It has a very basic 2 inch lift. Blocks in the rear and coil spacers in the front. It also has/had bad wheel hubs/bearings on BOTH sides of the front. Is it possible the 2" spacers led to this or is it just a coincedence? I'd hate to replace the hubs just to have them go bad again soon but kind of want to keep the 2" of lift
