Leaf spring sliders: Opinions?
I'd be interested to hear from any of you engineers or others who are familiar with the numbers and details of how they work compared to shackles.
Specifically, I'm interested in regards to my next XJ which will be lowered and go-fast. How would they affect stability and predictability?

Anyway, I've heard they've used them in drag racing applications for years. You probably won't have much to complain about if you get em.

Thanks for posting this, I am going to buy the 1.5" lift kit from R.C. and have just ordered some Monroe load adjusting shocks. Was thinking that I might have overdone it needlessly, sounds like I didn't. Very nice jeep btw. The posted link doesn't work, but I'm curious about that skid plate though! did you fab it?

sorry if this is the wrong thread for this, but I see a lot of guys like the Billstein 5100 shocks, would these fit in a stock 2001 XJ or are they meant only for lifted jeeps that require longer travel?
How are they in terms of a soft comfy ride on the highway? Or are they meant for off road/crawling/going over logs and rocks?
Thanks, and I did see a thread recently for Monroe Senstrac but those 5100's sure look nice!
=)

[EDIT: just as I posted this, I found a thread dedicated to it: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/bil...ension-177022/

^^^Im in a similar situation. Im looking for replacement shocks (leaning towards bilstein since they are so popular), but I have a Rusty's 6.5" Long arm lift and I have no clue what shocks will work for my setup. I tried asking the guys at Quadratec, but all they could do was recite what the info says on the products (up to 4" lift).
My ride quality sucks pretty bad. Im on 35's @ 22psi front/ 20 rear, which helps, but its still rough.
Who else out there has 6.5" lift and a comfy ride, and what shocks/specs are available to us? I was looking at the 5100 or 5150's, but I cant figure out if Im too tall for them.
EDIT: Serious offroad's website provides much more info than Quadratec.
but still, what's the ride quality difference between the 5100's and the 5150/5160's? does it justify the 2.5x the cost?

Ordering a 4" IRO lift and 33x10.5's monday, will i be ok with 1.25" wheel spacers on the stock wheels? I understand i will need to trim a little, not a big deal but will that setup be ok for light wheeling out here in Hawaii on a island?

I would google reviews on wheel spacers. I've heard nothing but bad and returned the ones I had purchased and just decided on wheels with 3.75" backspacing. I spent less on my wheels than on the spacers. If you're gunna go spacers, make sure they're good quality and are exactly what your hubs require. I think spidertrax (May be the wrong name) was the only one that peeps were saying were reliable. And don't get wheel spacer and wheel adapter advice mixed up. Seriously though, if you aren't just mall crawling, and you're using 33s, just get wheels and save yourself the stress of down-the-road worries. I spent a lot of time in your area (Hickam, once/twice a month for years). Don't get yourself stranded.
Does anyone have any information about lifts from Fat Bobs Garage? I'm considering getting the Jeep Cherokee "XJ 3" Lift Kit w/ Performance 8000 Series Shocks 1984 - 2001" for my 98' xj. Depending on how much money I decide to spend, i was also considering the "XJ 2" Lift Kit 4WD/2WD 1984-2001" from fat bobs. I dont plan on doing anything serious with the jeep, just driving around town. Any information would help.
Thanks guys

I have been lurking on this sight for a while now. Great information and write ups.
I have a 98 sport that has a 5" lift on the front. I have installed RC drop brackets and RE adjustable UCA and adjustable LCA.
After a short ride thru the neighborhood, I notice a very minor rubbing sound when weaving (like changing lanes), more so when turning the steering to the left than the right. Tires are not rubbing.
I check torque on everything again. Drove it down the highway drives straight and true. 58MPH and no wobble, no veering.
I think it may be the pinion angle.
Could I level the frame to check the pinion? The rear needs to be raised to level out the jeep. Level ground won't give me a true reading.
Could I remove the lock nuts on the control arms permanent? I can't make them shorter with the nuts on.
