Why buy second best ? Great Question
Why Wrangler X vs Rubicon Unlimited ?
Why XJ sport vs XJ Limited ?
Why NOT Walker Evans Beaded alloys vs Soft 8 Cragars ?
Why is everyone and their dog comparing the hydro vs nitro "junk" at the bottom, yet at the top it's always just Bilstein vs Bilstein competition ?
Do you like Jeb vs Hillary 2016 ?
How about some options ? Choices are junk vs Bilstein ?
you accept that ?
Knowledge is power, maybe you feel different.
Myself i like to gather all the info that i can find, (including new kinda clowns) then i decide for myself what is best for me.

Because Bilstein is a much better shock.
Technically, if you want the best shock, go King or fox, get a dual reservoir setup, bpe's and run em. Go check the prices on those guys, then you'll see why Bilstein is the most practical economical choice. You're asking us for advice, here it is.
If you want a shock thats "2nd best" then go get some generic white bodies from 4wp and call it a day.

ok. thanks. I've been going back and forth between zone, RE and Old man emu. Leaning toward the RE just because they include more in their kit. I can seem to piece together a kit for cheaper than the RE kits.

Metric tire size choice...advice needed.
I'm going to use alloy 16" Mickey Thompson rims and am limited to metric tire sizes. I've got a RE 3.5" lift and wanted to put 31x10.5 on the truck but there are almost no 31" tire choices that I like with a 16" rim. So, I'm stuck choosing between 245/75R16 or 265/75R16.
Problem and question is this....which size should I get if it's going to be mostly daily driving highway miles and I don't want to re-gear? The 265/75R16 is closest in size to 31" but actually measures about 1" larger than most 31" tires. Most 31" tires actually measure 30.5-30.7" in diameter. Most of the 265/75R16 measure 31.7" in diameter. That's starting to get into the size where power and gearing, etc starts getting into the equation.
If I go with 245/75R16 tires, they'll actually be closer in diameter to the 31" tires. Most of the 245/75R16 I've looked at actually measure right around 30.7" diameter, the same as 31" tires. The only real difference is in the tire width. The 245/75R16 tires are about an inch narrower at 9.6" compared to the 10.5" of the 31x10.5 tires.
If I'm looking to keep my MPG and highway performance from suffering too much is there going to be much difference between the two sizes listed? Should I go with the 245/75 and call it good? Any of the choices is going to be a big upgrade from the 225/70 factory OEM tires I had before. Any older, wiser types have suggestions?

It has probably already been asked, but with 1455 pages and 21,821 posts the search function is going to bring up a lot of useless results, and by the time I sort through them all the answers will have changed
So here is the setup to my question. I bought a 1998 XJ Sport, I have no idea what has been done to it, but by looking at the rear springs they have either been changed or had a leaf added. I can't find any specs on what the OEM height was on a bone stock XJ Sport was so I can't confirm if the rear was raised or just stiffened up. The front looks to be at stock levels and all OEM parts. Once again I am not sure on that.
Now on to the question. I am thinking of raising my XJ to make it a little more capable, and I will admit it for the coolness factor too. I don't want to go too high, I am thinking it the 3-4 inch range with 31s. I wont be rock crawling or tackling any hardcore trails, it will be more for back country fishing and camping trips. The rest of the time it will be on road transportation, and parts getter for my other project car.
Being that I have another car I sucking as much money out of my pockets as it can, I am looking at budget recommendations. I was originally drawn to the RC lift kits, but with the number of poor reviews I have read I am not so interested in them any more, even if the price is right. My theory is that where there is smoke there has to be the starting of a fire. Zone is another company that has caught my eye and I can purchase that locally, eliminating shipping costs.
So what is a good budget 3-4 inch lift kit, and what is a good budget dual purpose, leaning a little more to the off road side, tire to go with it? Wheels will either be what is currently on it, some unknown brand, width, backspacing 15" or a new set of 15" soft 8s or d window knock offs.
Thanks for your help.

overwhelmed...haha
ok so I am torn and on a very tight budget.
01 xj sport 4x4 dana 30/35 all stock as of now.
trail rig, hunting, light playing want to get to harder to reach hunting holes. no hardcore crawling...not looking to trim, tuck or fold, want to run stock bumper for now. this is my daily driver, will be on the road mostly, but I am an avid hunter, fisher.
wanting least 3 to 3.5 inches of lift and to be able to run 31x10.50s
needing to know every last thing I need to go from stock to lifted with no problems. as I am working two jobs right now to get this lift, so I can finish my truck(my real money pit)
Wheels and tires- prolly going to get the jegs versions of the crager soft 8s 15x8 with 3.75 back spacing(or do I need a different Bs with 31x10.50?)
I know Rc and rustys are semi frowed upon, but i need a higher jeep.
so... I am looking at the Rc 3 inch lift series II with the full leaf packs.
now if I get this kit do I need a adjustable trac bar?
sway bar discos?
front and rear extended brake lines?
TC drop kit?
bump stops?
OR....
Rustys 3 inch complete wheel and tire package with full leafs.
this kit seems less...complete, and shipping is higher
but looks like Id need sway bar discos?
extended brake lines(front and rear?)
Lcas?
tac bar?
tc drop kit?
bump stops?
Sorry for the beat to death questions, but I am overwhelmed with info..
just want an all in one lift, to make my rig a little more capable, and better looking. just want to make sure I know every single thing I will NEED so I can get this done. dont want to get a kit and be missing something I will need, cause this is my DD... will need to be a one to two day max project(yes I am mechanically inclined no need to worry there) cant afford to wait for some part i am missing to be shipped...I to fat to walk to work. lol
thanks.

btw, and out of those two kits, which brand would you pick?
leaning Rc, because shipping is cheaper, and seems to be a more complete kit.
i am really needing to know what I Have to have all at once to do it right the first time, even if these two brands are considered sub par next to others...
