Could the 31"s add to this as well? Could they actually add another 1.5" worth of lift to the frame?
To answer your question, no. Those measurements are from the center of the axle tube to the body. Imagine putting different size tires on it, would that distance change?

Also, comparing to jeeps lifts visually is pretty difficult. There are many variables that change the look of the jeep. What lift kit did you go with? Many lifts are originally higher than advertised, and settle to around the advertised value after they've broken in.

I went ahead and took just that stuff apart last night. My sway bar links decided they'd had enough. Both snapped off at the top connection, so now I'm replacing them too. Its an 88, I'm not surprised.
I disconnected the track bar hoping that I can install the adjustable one without having to pull the front axle back into place. I've based the measurements on the experiences I've seen others have on you tube.
Put the springs in then move the jeep straight forward and back 15-20 feet that should center your axle then set your track bar so it fits.
As for the links you'll probably need longer ones, drop brackets or better yet discos
Good luck!

I bought the Jeep with the lift already installed, that's why I'm trying to figure this information out so I know what parts to buy down the road, etc.

After looking at many many pictures of XJs with various lifts on 31"s, I've concluded that I'm around 4.5" lift in front and 3" in the rear. I'm guessing the previous owner wanted the rear lower to avoid having to go with an SYE. Now the personal debate starts with buying new leaf packs and evening out the lift.

Again, dont go by "what it looks like." Take your measurements, compare them to stock, and thats how much lift you have. No if's, and's, or but's.

There's different components involved with different amounts of lift. A 4" short arm lift and a 5" short arm lift are completely different beasts. Same goes for the rear.

If I were you, (and I'm not, take my advice with a grain of salt) id drop the front to match the rear. Its most likely cheaper, and with 31's you'll be plenty capable. though you'll probably have to trim the fenders. Which you should do anyway.

I purchased a ebay 2 inch lift last year (Coils and Shackles from taiwan) and the passenger side coil snapped right in the middle. I was thinking about doing ZJ coils but am not sure based on what I've searched what type of ZJ i can grab coils from and what year if there's a difference lift wise for my xj. I'm only looking for 2 inches of lift and am wondering if I cant find a zj coil or a if I have to run ZJ coils and a spacer still to get 2 inches. I can't seem to find just coils for a 2" lift. We have extremely mild trails where i'm located so I'm not interested in going higher.

Wait the coils snapped. Please post the sellers info so people can stay away from them. That's beyond ****ed up. And as clown said, look to buy them new btw. The amount of lift they gave you depend on their condition

They were just cheap no name ebay parts it was a $100 set that came with coils, shackles, and shocks. The shocks where garbage and one of the rears started leaking after a month and after about 4 months i had to replace them all (started to bounce real bad). The shackle is pretty beefy and has a good poly bushing in it and the coils where 2.25" ish longer then my old stock coils but where thinner diameter. It started sagging a few months before the passenger side snapped and sat the bumpstop on the coil perch(I'm driving it around with my old stock coils now). They came with no paper work in blank brown boxes with the shipping info thats all.

Yea man that sucks. Def when it comes to parts for your jeep, try to get quality as much as possible. I've noticed the more i went either budget boost or subpar shocks etc, i would be buying more in a year. Its better to pay more upfront the twice

Well as you saw in my previous post, I did measure but I have a hard time believing that I've got a 5.5" front lift. But it did measure 23" from the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender flare so I don't know.

My ride is a bit "hoppy" over speed bumps so I think I may need to replace the shocks soon. I may take your advice and get shorter coils for the front to even out the lift. I REALLY want to trim my fenders as I love the look, but I don't think I can do it with a stock front bumper and have it look right. Ideally, I would love to get new leaf packs for the rear to match the front lift, but I don't want to dish out the $$ for an SYE and driveshaft.

quick question guys, ive got a 97 im going to be lifting soon, planning on going with a 3.5" RE with full leafs and coils. my question is will the stock control arms still work? Im planning on getting long arms after, just wondering if i should get some LCA's, and if yes fixed or adjustable? im also going to be getting an RE adjustable track bar as i know ill need it anyways, just wondering about the control arms, dont want to be getting parts im just going to discard in a little while

With 33s? You'll want LCAs. 31s? Don't need 'em.

They aren't too bad. You'll have to trim most of the back of the fender away to turn with stock LCAs
