Shocks do not provide lift and sjould be matched to the amont of lift added to the rig.

Generally pretty nice shocks though... Measure them at extended & collapsed length and see what you have. You can find lift cheat charts online to give you a rough idea of what's useable but you still want to measure by hand in case somethings funky with your vehicle. Otherwise a shock can blow up or get yanked off the mounts!

Default Shackle vs. Block

I am interested in getting a small lift on my '95 XJ. I am a city dweller, and it will spend 99% of its life on pavement but would like to be a little higher up and not sag in the *** end.

I was wondering about the difference between the budget kits that use a longer shackle for the rear springs and those that use a block under the spring? Is one better, safer, easier?

If you're rear is sagging you probably need new leaf springs. Shackles and blocks will give you lift but won't take care of saggy springs.

Stock replacement with a lift shackle (you can get HD replacements that lift like an inch), Old Man Emu and Rancho also make 2" lift leafs.

Both will cause your springs to break due to increased stress. You need to replace the written out leaf packs, as Diesel said above me. If it's in your price range, Old Man Emu is the best you're gonna find.

I think when i have enough money I'm going to go with the iro double shear. One more question: for a 3" lift do i need to get a drop pitman arm?

That's why a 3" lift is a good spot. All honesty you really only need an adjustable trac bar, LCAs (which people Will contest but im happy i got them) and possibly an SYE depending on your jeep or leaf spring setup. Im mad how much money and time i wasted with budget boosts and 2" shocks and just crap that i should have just done a full leaf 3" lift to begin with years ago.
