I find it hard to believe your tranny doesn't get hot with 36's. I ran 35's and my tranny got really hot even with a large aftermarket cooler to the point where it would start to slip a little I dropped back to 33x10.50's and it run much cooler and has not slipped a bit since. even with stock gears.

I can get a deal on gears, and easily install them myself. That is not an issue. But i have a goal with this xj. So it is for a purpose that I run stock gears. once I get the tubework and mods done I am currently working on. It is then that the fun will begin. And I will post up much better videos.
I feel for the average wheeler lower gears would be best. I do not want to miss inform anyone. Again I m trying to create something, something I am visualizing. So in the process maybe some can conclude on their own from my application what would or would not work for them.

Don't know tom. I got a huge diesel cooler for the tranny ready to install. Have not needed it yet. But much harder wheeling is on the way and I want to be safe. I also live in a desert at 5000' elevation and some of my trails go upto 10,500' elevation so that could be a factor. When people regear here we all run 4.88's in stock axles and goto 5.13- 5.38's in one ton
The next video (month from now) will be on huge power robbing hills. All the rock bouncers will be there also. Should give a pretty good test.

Cherokee XJ 10-11" Lift
Hello all,
My XJ is currently at 8.5" of lift in the front with short arms, and 6.5" in the back. This week I am upgrading to long arms custom made for a 12" lift, buying 8" coils and putting a 3" spacer in the front. After that, I will be at 11" total in the front now. This is my daily driver, and I really never take it offroading. It drives beautifully now, friend hit 100mph in it last week. My question is what kind of steering mods will I have to do to make sure it handles just as good as it does now.

I am going to do it regardless, so what can I do to make it safe? It's not tall enough. I want to tower over everyone. I hate that the stock height of an XJ is so short..... I just a little taller than a stock f150 with 8.5" of lift.. ridiculous

Then buy a truck. You're kinda pushing limits here, but hey if I had the money id buy 24" lift and just rebuild the entire jeep

If you hate how small it is than buy a full size truck and lift it.. a xj does not have the track width to safely run a lift of that size. Sounds like you have stock steering on the jeep now so you are already beyond being safe.
