I love the way my xj rides. I have the RE monotube shocks fron and rear and its a little stiff but overall i love it. I do get vibrations around 25-35 mph but its bearable until i go ahead and do the sye. Im running 265/75/16 and i didnt have to trim anything to fit them so you can fit 32's without a problem. Heres how mine looks

I dont have tcase drop or sye at the moment and i wouldnt say it is mandatory but it will help with your vibrations if you get any. I know a buddy with the same lift as me with 32's and he doesnt have any vibrations so I guess it depends on your jeep. Most of the time I think your going to get vibrations but you can start with tcase drop before sye. Im just waiting to do sye.

How much (well, how little) backspacing can I run and still keep the tires under the flares COMPLETELY on a 2000 xj?
Tires would be 31s" by probably 10.5" or the 16" wheel equivalent should i decide to stick to my Icons and run spacers...
I REALLY want my tires to stick out, but Maine law says they must be covered, so I need to think way ahead in terms of tire size/fender flares/wheel measurements/lift height...
Like really, I need to think to myself "ok, so i want to run 31s. but I need to keep my frame rails under 24" front, 27" rear...but then I need my tires wider for stability, so I need bigger fender flares...which also open the wheel well height-wise, so then less lift to fit the same tires...BUT I want tires and wheels now, but want to add to the lift later...so then I'd need...." It's rediculous...
At least NOW we're allowed to lift abs vehicles AT ALL...Rant over...sorry
May just buy the wheels and tires I want and then add those rubber fender flare extensions if the wheels stick out...idk

Thanks, man! Does the Jeep feel any more stable with 10.5s?

I have the same lift, same shocks, RE adj. track bar, etc. after a year my lift finally settled closer to the 3.5" mark. I did have driveline vibes around 40mph, installed tc drop, almost brought the vibes to zero. After full settle the vibes went away. I wouldn't go above 31". I had 32s on for a month after the lift to try it out and had no rub. However, I replaced with 31s and today I probably wouldn't put 32s back on till I put on flat fenders (spring project).

Iirc, I had the exact same issue. Double nut worked on one side but I think I had to cut a hole in the unibody to get better angle on the stud, then welded the cutout back in after. You may need to take it to a shop for help depending on your resources at home. Or PB Blast the hell out of it for a few days and try again.
