Ok I have a question. I just bought my first jeep! It is a 98 Cherokee and I love it but would like to put a lift on it. I am in high school so I do not have a ton of money for a lift. I am not looking for something extremely high just enough to let me hit the trails with a little more clearance. 3" is the max height I would want to go. My rear leaf springs are pretty flat also so instead of buying brand new ones would it be bad to get some ones in decent shape off of an xj at the junkyard. I took a look the other day and they had quite a few xj's with rear leaf springs in excellent condition. Thanks!

Welcome to the xj world. It's fun stuff. Your goals seem realistic and doable. Have you thought about bastard packs?

I have heard a little about them but not a ton. I am up to it though because we have all the tools to work on the jeep. The jeep bumps in the rear when I hit a pothole so my dad thinks I need new shocks and leaf springs. I know I need new leaf springs but not so sure on the shocks yet. My goal is to put 30" tires on it max.

Pretty easy to do. Bleepinjeep has a video on YouTube all about it. He's a goof but has great XJ vids.

Your shocks are likely original, and they should've been replaced ten years ago if that's the case. For 30" tires, a 2" lift would be plenty. Nothing wrong with a 3" lift if you want to do it, but please do it right if you take that route

A 2" lift would be plenty for me! What would be the best route to do that?

I strongly recommend new leaf springs, and they'd likely be the most expensive thing you'll need. Besides that, you can use coil spacers up front and pick up some new shocks (quality dependant upon your budget). I'd recommend replacing your rubber brake lines at the same time. It wouldn't be entirely necessary, but it would be peace of mind for brake line length AND for quality, as rubber brake lines do break down over time

Rustys offroad has a 3" lift kit for $438 would it be much cheaper to go 2" or should I just go with the 3" one that comes with full leaf springs?

Like everyone starts out i just bought my first Jeep. It is a 99 Cherokee Sport Manual 5 speed 4.0 engine. i Am looking to lift it for moderate four wheeling and mud play. This will also be a daily driver. I am leaning towards the RE 3.5 super flex kit with new leafs spring packs and Billstein 5100 shocks and RE track bar and front stainless steel brake lines. Just looking for some opinions on how it will ride and if i am missing something that i should add when i do the install. Also will 32-11.5-15 tires fit or will i need to trim. Thanks Matt

You picked out some really good equipment. I would also suggest a slip yoke eliminator kit
, new drive shaft and some 4 degree shims for your rear axle.

And support the vendors that support this site....

You will need some back spacing for the wheels, they will rub when you turn & won't get good flex.

I forgot i do have aftermarket wheels on the jeep. I don't know which wheels i have they are the black steel wheels with a 3 inch back space. They came with the Jeep.
