You shouldn't modify the stock track bar at all.... he's asking if he can drill the mount on the axle. It has been done with much success... as far as what height - I have no idea.

The instructions for my zone 4.5 lift state to do the same thing so you should be good for 4inches. I would honestly wait for the trac bar to come in the mail though. I'm waiting for mine because I don't see any reason to drill away metal when I can wait and keep the metal there. Less holes = more support.

I used the Rugged Ridge track bar relocation bracket as a temporary fix till I can afford an adjustable track bar. They say it is good from 2-4" of lift, I am at 3 and has done the job for now. It does need a bit of attention, as it weekly torquing and some blue loctite, but in the short term it is better than drilling a big hole in the factory mount. Yes the RR relocation bracket does require drilling a hole in the factory mount, but it is smaller and easier to weld in when you get an adjustable.

It took me about 3 weeks of re-torquing the mounting bolts every 3-5 days before they held properly and not backed out. I still check them once a month just to be sure. I haven't bought my new track bar because other things keep popping up that I can not make-do repair

Note: I do own a couple of properly calibrated torque wrenches. Great tools to have when you don't want to break bolts and nuts or have them back off at inopportune times

Thanks for the response. I knew going into it that I wouldnt be able to make it handle like a sports car, just looking to make improvements. Any ideas of aftermarket coil/leaf springs that could help without raising the car? Having trouble find anything that isn't a 2 inch lift or greater.

Good shocks should get you where you want to be. If not, put in new stock springs that aren't worn it and broken. With a 3" lift and stiff shocks, I was able to keep up with my buddy's VW TDI going down a mountain road

Hi guys this is probably a dumb question. I know that going with 33's is going to screw up my speedometer, how bad will it make it?

I found a calculator thing once and it said at 65 I'm doing 67...and I'm only on 30s so...add a few more to that

Ok I was expecting anywhere from 5-7mph. Is it true once you regear it will make the speedo back to normal? I am planning on going with 4.10 gears.

No, not true.
You need to install the correct gear in your tcase. It's easy and can be done in 10-20 minutes.

Your speedo error will depend on what tires XJ came with. If you were on factory 225/70R15 and jumped to a 33" tire your speedo error would be out 17-18%. If you actual speed was 60 mph, your speedo would be reading 49 mph.

Changing the gearing will affect the speedo reading, Check the speedo gear chart

Lol, less than that. I did it in 8 mins in nice clothing. Just do it when TC is cold and fluid is back in the main hold so not as much fluid pours out. And make sure the proper range is lined up when installing. No sense doing it twice cause someone's eyes weren't opened

If you're going from stock tires with an automatic, it's 16%. Quadratec sells speedometer gears to correct the issue, and they have a handy chart to find what you need
