Same here for service rigs. They are popular for the right reasons I suppose.. They need a Duratrac X (or something cool sounding) with 6+ sidewall plies.. And more size options.. I know these ideas aren't conventional enough to put into production, but a man can dream..

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna try for a set of 10.5's. I'd like to find a tire that I can obtain locally so I'm rather limited. I think I'm going to try for either a Firestone or a Toyo tire. My friend has a set of 33x10.5x15 Toyo Mud Terrains on his TJ and he loves them. I've also considered General AT2's but I can't get them locally and I believe they're only offered in a 12.5 wide. I'll stop by Les Schwab's today after I get off work and see what they've got to offer. As always I appreciate the help guys

Slightly on the same subjet, is tire diameter the determining factor in gears? Im thinking on 33x10.5 for my DD/WW. Mostly highway driving so AT most likely. Ive seen folks with 4.10s and 4.56. Im figuring if im going to do gears i may as well go bigger just in case i want full size 33s. What do you think?

When the designers determine gear ratio, it's balanced with the transmission gears, tire size, engine power output and power band, and other factors. Since most of us aren't swapping to a different engine or transmission, we regear solely because of the different tire size

True true, everything comes into play with the drive system. Thanks Clown. Didnt really think about the possibilty of overgearing.....what would happen? Spin tires a lot?

That, and good luck driving on the highway. Too much gearing, and you hit redline too early. It limits your top speed because of RPM

What do you guys think are better tires for a daily driver and weekend (mud and trail riding) warrior? The Mickey Thompson MTZs or the Firestone Destination MT?

I've used both, and I like both. I prefer the Firestones, and I got much better mileage (tread life) out of them as well. Dukie has also used both, so maybe he'll chime in if he's lurking around here

I was gonna go with the MTZ but saw some firestones on a truck the other day and I loved the way they looked. Much better in person than in the pictures. Any other low cost MTs I should know about?

At the risk of being ridiculed. Look into the Kenda Klever M/T. Super cheap and perform great on and off road. I'm running 255-75-17 (bout the same as a 33x10.5) and love em. Have around 15k mi. on them with no noticeable wear. Best part they cost like $520 shipped.

yea, I think I saw those at SAMs club. I'll look into them. Anybody have any opinions on the new Mickey Thompson MTZ P3?

Well it really depends on the spring rate of each leaf and how they are combined. If they are all stiff springs stacked together it will ride like a rock, but if they are softer rates and stacked in quantity they will be smooth while giving an aditional amount of lift because there are so many. It really depends on the spring rate. I dont have the science numbers so maybe someone else can chime in.
