Ok, after some consideration I'm back leaning toward a 3.5" lift. Rubicon Express has the consensus for quality. I will install an adjustable track bar, but I'm wondering if the SYE and CV driveshaft would still be the "correct" way to do things, or am I fine without them?

At that height, it's 50/50 whether or not you'll need one. The only surefire way to know is to lift it. But even if you end up not needing it, it's still a good upgrade to have.

I'd still do it. Especially on your jeep. On newer jeeps you can pull the rear shaft and drive home on the front one if you break the rear shaft for some reason, but if you break a rear shaft your fluid will drain out of the transfer case.

Looked at Rusty's offerings. The advanced 3" kit has what I want at a good price if I add adjustable upper and lower control arms, sway bar disconnect and a steering stabilizer. Would there be a benefit to upgrading to the long travel shocks? Would they allow more movement of the suspension? Would I need to modify or replace bump stops?

Still do it. RE tends to give more lift than advertised to compensate for load, bumpers, armor, ect. My 3.5" came around to maybe 4.25. I get slight vibes at very low speeds or around 60mph. Do the SYE

I remember someone once having mentioned a list for all the things needed
when lifting a jeep. For e.g. with a 2'' lift you'd have to change the brake lines and so on.
By chance does anyone here have that list ?

Alright so I want to do 3 in. lift on 31's for my 01, but I need to keep costs low. I'm 16 and don't have a steady income. Any recomendations? I know I can do a bastard pack or add a leaf for the rear and maybe find some junk yard shocks as well, but I'm not sure. Thanks guys

I'm 17 not a steady income, lifted it on my 16th birthday. I did it "cheap" and went with rough country and its cost me a lot more in the end. If I were you I'd just save and wait till I could afford a good kit. Zone I've heard is a good entry kit. Just what I would do.

Build a bastard pack or find second-hand lift springs for the rear. Used springs for the front. Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks. Relocate brake lines. Invest in a new track bar.

I listed my XJ 3.5" with used coils, almost brand new Rubicon Express leaf springs, JK Wrangler shocks (not recommended; wrong length), a brand new Iron Rock Offroad double shear trackbar, 5 wheels, and 5 brand new Duratrac 33x12.5 tires. I spent under $1000 for everything after spending 7 months gathering parts.
