Do a hack-n-tap, and install a CV driveshaft. Also please reconsider your lift choice the RC leafs are too short so the ride sucks ***. Have you looked into piecing together your own kit? That way you can get exactly what you want and nothing you don't, plus If you shop around you can save some coin

Will i be fine with the just the 1 inch transfer case drop? Has anyone else done with lift with this year cherokee and transfer case? I have seen alot of people with the 231 and this lift but since a SYE is not readily available for the 242 i would like some advice.


If you insist on the RC kit go with long arm and not the CA drop kit but consider another brand for sure. Tom Woods has an SYE for that 242 but its costly so a Hack & Tap is needed for a more reasonable cost, no TC drop kit either.


A ZJ tie rod setup would be a good upgrade for you also.


If you piece together a kit you will get better quality equipment over "most" kits. For that tire size you will need new rims a 15x8" wheel with 3.75-4" of BS. for clearance.

As of right now my budget is roughly $2000 to $2500 for lift, wheels, tires, and anything i happen to break while installing the kit. Is there anything that doesnt come with that kit or that does and i dont actually need while i look at building my own?

How difficult is doing a hack and tap kit? and do i need custom drive shafts to do that?

hack and tap or tom woods sye for the 242. Don't get rough country they ride terribly the bushings wear out and their kits are junky trust me I know from experience unfortunately. If I were you (what I will eventually be doing) getting a 3 link kit (either b lees or cav fab which are both vendors here and high quality) and most likely re springs with iron Rock offroad double shear track bar, extended front and rear brake lines, bilstein 5100, shackle relocators with boostwerks shackles. It's not the cheapest way to lift, but it will ride very well, and last long which is better than cheap and then costing more to replace (what I'm stuck doing). That's my advice.

any sye needs a new driveshaft (hack and tap is a cheap sye) usually can use the front driveshaft from a Cherokee or grand Cherokee if on a budget. I used a zj driveshaft because an xj was just a little too short.

What determines which drive shaft i need to get? Is it height of lift or something else?

Can you put bump stomps on without taking off the Front coil springs.
I got the zone 3"kit w/ full leafs and instructions say you don't need bump stops. But I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Is everything from RC bad or do they make some good quality stuff and some crap?

height of lift, how long the sye is, how long the transfercase is, and what rear axle you have

99% steaming ****, 1% decent extended brake lines. Even their leaf spring shims are trash, and they lied to me over the phone so I would buy them.

Yep, RC is garbage. Well I don't have the experience, I just took advice from the guys here. Piecing your kit together is the best way to go about it. Amazon usually has good deals, or find a local off-road shop.

Also, agree 100% with Hen. I just purchased my CavFab 3 link this morning. Check out the thread in the vendor section. Super beefy setup. Can't wait to get it under the Jeep.

Pretty much crap. I took a chance on the RC long arms and love them. Worse case scenario I can replace the flex joints with Johnny joints and be good to go. I was going to go with RE long arms, but due to my stock suspension getting to the point of unsafe and bald tires I took a chance and spent that money on RC and tires. Shop around you can build a nice setup with your budget.

I just priced the Tom Woods NP242 Kit and it is not that much more than a SYE kit for the 232. His kit includes a drive shaft and all the 232 kits I have seen don't. A 232 SYE plus driveshaft is around $430.00 plus tax, the Tom Woods kit is $470.00 if your output shaft from the 242 is good.
