I try to avoid this topic but I have had my aal for over a year and a half now and have towed/hauled alot of crap in the back while camping last year. So you might have decent luck with one or you might get screwed with it. But if your on a budget I would deffinetly go aal.

I recently bought a 96 cherokee with a 3" lift. Has a vibration when you hit the gas but fine when you coast. I was told this was because of the lift and have been told two solutions.

1. Shim the rearend to match the lift.

2. Cvc driveshafts instead of the ujoint shafts.

will any of these work?

Shims will take care of most of it but the cv driveshaft will solve it. Shims are a bandaid just like a tcase drop.
Iron rock off road has a kit for $200 that will do it for you. You can spend a lot of money on variants like short shaft kits etc, but their hack n tap is cost effective and good to use for most people.
Baker--- If you have a 242 you may not need one, they don't seem to have as big a problem with vibes. However if you check out http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/ in the tech section he does a sye on a 242.

I know this has probably been answered a million times, but please be patient...I am fairly new.

I don't really care much for lifting my 2000 XJ, but would like a very comfortable ride. I have four children and use the XJ as my DD. What is the best option for a comfortable ride without spending much money? (I know the words comfortable and XJ shouldn't be used together, but it is paid for...so I want to keep her)

So what do you need to do? Rear springs sagging? If not Look up Grimus99XJ on Naxja.org tell him you need new shocks and tell him what you want it to do. He'll get some that are valved to give you a softer ride. You can only do so much. "comfortable" is relative, if the stock ride is too harsh shocks will help some. If you don't want to go get a new vehicle, tell the family to deal with it and grab new shocks. Otherwise to get a comfy ride you'll have to sell it and get a car.

I want to get new shocks. my xj has a 2 to 3 inch lift so I want to get the right shocks for it but not sure what type of lift has been done. Are most of the lifts done with the suspension? How would I tell if it was a body lift? Help! -Keith

Cherokees are a unibody so no body lift at all only suspension lifts.

YOu can only put a suspension lift on a Cherokee there is no way to do a body lift.

Measure from the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender flares that will tell you your lift size. Stock should be right at 17in. Ofcourse this is just from memory I am not certain.

I have a '99 Sport, with 2 inch spacers in the front, and 2" shackles in the back. However, my back tires still rub (knock my fenders off... a lot). Is there a way to check the shackles to make sure they're longer? And if they are, would a 2" Rusty's add-a-leaf do the trick?

What size tires do you have? measure from the center of the hub to the bottom of the flare. Also get us a picture! We can tell lots by pictures.

Recommend a tire for me:

This '94 is my daily driver, and it's completely stock. I do lots of highway driving & around town stuff. Winter performance is extremely important, as it snows like crazy here. I'd like to go taller than the current 235/75/15, but only if it requires no mods or compromises. Cost is a very important factor, too.
