I just bought a set of new Rubicon Hard Rock rims to put on 98 Cherokee, since I have Ford 8.8 rear I can just change the rear spacers to a 5x5 bolt pattern. I'm wondering if anyone has change out the front bearing hub to a new style with the 5x5 pattern say of a WJ, TJ etc.

About the lift
So it's finally time to put on a lift and I have chosen a 4.5 inch lift. Inahave done everything in the jeep my self from aftermarket radio to brakes to water pumps, but my question is how hard is a lift to out on? I am pretty solid when doing anything mechanical. Some people tell me you need a (car lift) to properly put on a lift kit. I have confidence in my skill set, but just wondering what is the opinion of the person reading this... should I do it my self or pay someone?
I have a jack, 4 jack stands, 325lb torque wrench, manual torque wrench and all the tools under the sun except a saw or torch.

It entirely depends on rust. If you live somewhere that doesn't throw down road salt like they're trying to bring ocean life to the storm drains, you'll be fine. It can be done in an afternoon in a southern area. If you're one of the poor bastards up here you will need a torch at the bare minimum. Saw and welder to deal with broken bolts aren't a bad idea.

It's doable in a garage or driveway but 4.5 is starting to get a little high. You have to get the car high enough to get the coil springs out which means axle without tires on the ground and car jacked up high enough away to slide the coils in then picking up the axles to get the jack under again. Doable for sure but 2 people makes it way easier. Also if you are doing long arm you need to cut off the stock lower control arm bracket. If it's short arm then you just use the stock brackets.

Also do it during business hours of a parts store nearby and have a second car either your own or a friends there in case you break something and need to run to a parts store or junkyard. You don't want to break something and be staring at your parts store transportation in pieces on the driveway.

As far as the fronts, the axle shaft is what has the wheel-mounting surface, the bearings are unit bearings, not hub bearings. Earlier 2wd XJs w/o ABS used hub bearings mounted on spindles, but everything else uses unit bearings and axle shafts. All that being said, you wouldn't be able to use the axleshafts from the WJ because they are a) CV axles and b) longer than XJ D30 axleshafts. And the TJ is the same pattern as XJs. JK axleshafts would land you in the same boat as WJs (minus the CV joint).
If you want to run those wheels, you're going to have to use adapters. I'd recommend Spidertrax or AlloyUSA if you're going to do that though.

Hey all,
I just got a 99 Sport with a 2" lift. I want to put 31x10.5 tires on it but was wondering if i need to trim anything or add spacers.
this is just to get through the winter and I am lifting in the spring to 4.5".
I just happen to have 4 - 31's laying around to get me thru.
