I broke my D35 three times with 35s. Personally, I haven't had a problem yet with 37s on my D30/Ford 8.8 combo, but the ball joints definitely don't like the big tires. I don't recommend it, but I've been okay so far.

I'm running a HP D30 with '94 XJ shafts and ujoints. Rear is a late-model Explorer axle, 31-spline with disc brakes. Detroit TrueTrac LSD in both.

With the extra weight of that aftermarket bumper a 3" lift would be a better choice as it would bring the front down to stock height I would imagine.


It wouldn't look all that bad using stock tires with a 3" lift till you get bigger ones later on.


I have been running on stock HPD30/Chy 8.25 29 splines locked 4.56 gears for several years now on 33's and 35" tires no problems, but carry spare axles never needed so far.


As for steering I have a braced and reinforced steering box using V-8 ZJ steering TRE's, seems to work OK.

Mines my daily, so if I go to 35's they'd be staying 35's. I don't really NEED to go to 35's, I've just grown to like more tire under the XJ.

I may have asked you this before, but how's the LSD offroad?

In my mind, it was the perfect compromise between road manners and offroad traction. Reality is different. I have to be careful making turns on wet roads because it likes to fishtail. Offroad, I only get the extra traction after one wheel starts spinning. That's fine in mud, but I don't like making my tires spin when I'm bound up in rocks (if I even can make one spin).

It's better than open diffs, but I definitely see selectable lockers in my future.

sorry if this is the wrong place for my post but i couldnt find anywhere else to post it.

i just bought a 93 xj today that has a RC 4.5 lift on it with 32" tires. im wondering if there is an easy way to lift the back an extra inch or 2. it has a home built rear bumper with spare tire swing out on it so its causing the back to sit lower.

It's sitting low because that particular item, the RC 4.5" leaf spring, is one of the worst products on the market for the XJ. Throw a decent 4.5" pack back there from Rubicon Express, Zone, or Iron Rock.

If you're willing to invest a little extra, look at shackle relocation boxes and extended shackles. It'll give you a smoother ride and better articulation

If you got a 4.5" Rubicon Express leaf pack your next post will be asking how to lower the rear. Expect higher than advertised gains w/ most new leaf packs.

hello everyone. I recently bought a set of brand new pro comp 10 x 15, 5 x 4.75 (the box was labeled 5 x 4.5) from craigslist. I guess I should have not trusted the box, anyway I have a nice set of rims that dont quite fit my jeep. A while back i researched adapters and would rather not go that route but was wondering if i could buy 5 x 4.75 wheel bearings for my jeep as the fronts could use replaced anyway. anyone have a thought?

If you really wanted to you could redrill the hubs.

In that case, if i go with those leafs, and use the shackles that are already on the jeep that came with the rc lift. How much of a lift are thr shackles alone? I see the rc lift which claims 4.5" comes with a aal and shackles. But i cant find an answer on how much each part lifts the rear

As for the front. Can i safely add a coil spring spacer with the rc 4.5 coils to match the new hight of the rubicon express leafs?
