I can't find a good solution to carry my spare. I have 31's on my Jeep and I know that they fit in the cargo area but I've built a cargo box in the back that I use for storage and it fold into a bed for camping so I don't want to keep it inside. This leaves me with either the roof rack mount or rear mounted. The only issue here is that I mountain bike multiple times a week and leave my bike rack locked on the hitch to speed things up.
I've heard that the roof rack is doable but a pain and has CG and MPG drawbacks and most people go with the rear mount, but is there a way to mount the tire and still have my bike rack on there without having to drop $1k for the whole set up or having it all stick out an absurd amount.
Hope this makes sense, thanks in advance for any help.

I'll get the photos of the box up, just pulled it to try and figure out how to get some carpeting on it so it doesn't look so janky sitting in the back haha
I use a roof mount bike rack. I bought the ones made for a truck bed rail and put it on the front cross bar and would just use the good quality bungie cords to hold the back tire to the back cross barAttachment 403310

He's wanting a wider stance using 235's. Thing is a high quality set of spacers are priced not much less than a new set of rims. A quick search shows Spidertrax spacers at ~$200.

Man I hate spacers because they can cause stud problems. So if that is the cost difference, he would be better off to just buy wheels with less backspace to bring them out right?

A set of 15x7's (or 15x8's w/proper b/s if you like the look w/235's) and 4" or 4.25" b/s would give him what he's looking for. All I know about spacers is what I've read here. Seems whether your in the group who likes them or not both agree that high quality is a must.
Truth is if I wouldn't have trashed my OEM rim and tire I'd have stayed with them even after I did the suspension replacement. Stock rims with 235's throw plenty of mud. lol

Drastic difference in looks for sure. Not sure what XJ OEM rim b/s specs are for all of them although I've read 5.25" (maybe a 5" b/s on some?) but if so I doubt any are under 5".

All the 15x7 wheels are 5.25"' BS
Icons and Ultrastars (16x7) are also 5.25"
Canyons, Gamblers, and Ravines (15x8) are 5.5"
TJ Moabs are 16x8 with 5" BS
There was also a 15x6 steel "Rally" wheel for totally stripped down models, and I never found a BS measurement for that one
(Edited for more info)

Looks like I am going to have to install a slip yoke eliminator on my cherokee......has anyone used the 3 degree spacers to solve the angle problem or do I need to just go for the slip yoke eliminator and be done with it? I technically only have 3" of lift, but after installing new leafs on rear, I can hear the front u joint tryna bind up on hard braking, and if I go over a hump in the road very fast, like railroad tracks, when it tops out over the hump, it makes a god awful noise, that is obviously the same thing as hard braking sound, but much worse........What yall think?
