Replacing Johnny Joints
Ok so I am pretty new to the Jeep world so bare with me. I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations about replacing Johnny Joints on a lift. A few of them have gone bad on the long arms and need to be replaced and my mechanic says the johnny joints are the worst and he wont touch them so I have a few questions.
How do I find out what size the joints are?
Should I rebuild them or replace them? Which is route is easier? What special tools will I need? Is it even possible to do outside of a mechanic shop (I will have help)?
Specifications of the lift include:
-6.5 long arm rear coil conv suspension lift kit, 3.00' axle tube size w/ 3 link bridge
-heavy duty front lower control arm brackets
-231 slip yoke eliminator kit
-XJ premium rear 1310 CV driveshaft (33.50, 1310 u-joints, dust cap, premium 6 inch spline)
not sure if any of that even helped but if I need to put more specs just let me know.
Thank you for any help!

1999 xj lifts?
Hey guys, I have a 1999 Cherokee XJ. I am looking to lift it and I want to do 4 inches or more. I don't know much about it so I would like some tips and recommendations on good companies or what to do. Thanks in advance I really appreciate it.

If you’re going to do 4+ inches of lift, it’s a good idea to install a Slip Yoke Eliminator with a double cardan drive shaft or a T case drop but that is a temporary fix. Also a lot of good kits will come with extended brake lines too. I haven’t bought a lift kit in 5+ years but I think that IRO, Rubicon Express and Clayton are pretty good quality lifts. That being said those brands are not the most cost effective. I have heard a lot of people having good luck with Rough Country which is a less expensive alternative, but I have heard the opposite as well. It comes down to what you want to spend and what level of quality you’re looking for.
So I took my jeep to a recommended mechanic to have my control arm drop brackets installed and he finishes the passenger side but for some reason my driver side upper control arm bolt is completely stuck, heat or nothing will budge it. He’s saying he wil need to cut the control arm out in order to fix it, I’m hesitant to do that because they are adjustable arms and not exactly cheap. I’m wondering if I should just find someone else to do the job. Has anyone else come across control arm bolts that are completely stuck like that?

When control arm bolts are seized/stuck, it is usually due to being seized to the inside sleeve of control arm. Makes it near impossible to remove. To prevent, use copper anti-seize.

Has anyone heard of Milestar Tires? A friend sent me a link for a company in town that will mount and balance mud terrains on my ride for $540. Seems like a deal. My concerns are these: are they really loud on the street (I do drive it for work from time to time)? What is their load range? I don't want them to be too heavy. Also, I'm moving towards expedition trail driving and away from rock crawling. A set of Bfg A/T's are what I was shopping for. Any recommendations?

I'm getting a 4 inch lift for my jeep and 32" tires, i'd like to keep the backspacing as close to stock as I can while keeping it safe from possibly flipping.. What's recommended?
