okay so i have a 3 inch lift in the back and only 2.5 in the front. i havent modified anything with steering or transfer cases or anything. would it work to put a 3/4th inch spacer on the front or would that mess up my steering. it would end up being 3.25 in the front

I'm getting 30" tires for my xj and am having a hard time deciding between just getting 4 tires or getting a 5th for a spare. I'm guessing it wouldn't be good to drive with the spare I have now(27") if the other tires are 30s but my friend said it should be fine. I trust you guys more than him so help please!

Do you wheel it? If you do then when you load it down with your camping gear it will level out and your good. If not then you could trim .25in off the spacer and your golden. You should be ok at 3in lift out front. Try it and if you get vibes then put a tc drop in it. It won't mess up your steering, it may put the front axle a little off center though.

I'm running 34" TSLs on stock rims with no lift and minor bumpstopping, but I had a bit of fender to trim, knocked the floorboard in (up) in the front and knocked the spare tire bump in (up) in the rear, and I had to reset the steering stops to keep from rubbing the LCA. Didn't notice a significant loss in turn radius either. Only rubbed on one of the rear fenderwells since I still have the OEM bumpstop on that side, which will be fixed within the week.
To an extent, I've thought about throwing 32s on my DD just to see if it'll go down the road for kicks. It WILL NOT be able to flex, but I mention it to point out that it depends on what you are doing with it. I could care less if my wheeling jeep gets smashed up on trail, or if I have to cut away part of the body, but that's me. My DD will stay completely stock until it's retired, so it won't generally see any real flex. A mall crawler won't need anything other than to look good, so lift and backspacing is a bigger issue. It all depends on what you're going to do with it.
Just my thoughts.

My question:
If I use a '3" lift shock' from Rusty's, how much bumpstop will I need to add over stock to protect the shock? I've already added 1.75" for the tires. I won't have much way to safely flex the vehicle enough to do trial and error. Is it just 1/2 the lift? (=1.5", in which case I'm good?)

I've got a 96 Cherokee Classic, i6, bone stock in terms of mechanical stuff. It's a 2WD so i'm not interested in making it a trail monster, but I would like to raise it some so it looks beefier, not so station wagon-y.
What's the cheapest way? Right now I just have generic 225/75/15 tires on it, no lift. I don't want to have to redo gears, deal with loud noises when on highways, anything like that. In my mind, a 2" lift and 30" tires sound right, but I'd like to toy with the idea before I start anything. Anybody have ideas, pictures, or similar scenarios? For the lift i'd like to spend no more than $200ish and for the tires, i'd like to spend no more than $500ish. I'd like to keep my stock 15" wheels.

Go with AAL's if you wanna redo them in a few months to a year. If your leaves are sagging then AAL's are only a band aid at best. If you need to keep it cheap then do a Bastard pack. If done right they will last for years and you don't even have to remove the XJ main at all.

All this info is looking real good, but even the BFG website says off-roading, those tires are a 9, but comfort and fuel efficiency are a 6. I won't be going offroad...literally...at all. I just want tires that look like they belong on a lifted jeep.

Ok I just ordered my 4.5inch lift kit so next will be tires, what I want to know what the biggest tire I can fit WITHOUT TRIMMING would it be 33's or should I just do 32's? And the wheels that I will be using have just about 4.5 inches of back spacing
