What are some other basic/inexpensive upgrades you guys have done that made a significant difference in your Jeep?
5100's are fine shocks! Replacing the stock 1/2" seat/spacer with a 1-3/4" seat /spacer will net a modest 1-1/4" lift in front which will allow you to place a little weight on the back to make the 1-1/2" shackles lift set level ( depending on how much those old springs are sagging). This modest lift shouldn't require an adjustable track-bar and should be relatively easy to install

I have the SYE eliminator planned, am waiting to receive it to mount it and know what length I need for my driveshaft! I have a 5 speed NV3550 and NP231

I don't plan to rebuild my D35 for the moment nor change the gearing, I understood that it was a useless waste of money. I'm waiting to find a F8.8 at the junkyard or at least an 8.25. I'm in France so it's a little more complicated!

I will just Daly drive it for the moment, no wheeling at all!

And for my rims I found the answer in this chart ET-44 is equivalent to 3.75 of backspacing Which I think is fine for 10x15 rims with some little rubbing I think even after cutting my fenders!

Default '92 XJ advice on lift / tires

Hey everyone,

It's been about 12 years since I listed an XJ and need some advice.

I just got my hands on a 92 Cherokee that mint. I plan on just using it as a cruiser with my 16yo son driving it to school here and there. It will see very little to almost no offroading - I have other Jeeps for that.

I'm looking to lift and would love to get the largest tire i can in it without cutting up the fender. My list important quality is ride and stability. I will not be working this Jeep, just want it to ride beautifully and look even nicer.

Back on the day RE and OME were the go to manufacturer. Who should I be looking at now for a lift with a great ride? Recommendations!

A stock XJ will take a 235/75/15 , a 2" lift will take a 30" tire and a 3" lift a 31. OME shocks will still give you the best ride even if you go with cheeper springs ; A 2" lift will be more then capable to meet your needs :

Depends on the amount of lift. Both companies still offer good quality. For lower lifts definitely OME.
Personally I’d go with RE springs for 4.5” or 5.5” lifts. I’m running 4.5” RE springs right now and really like them.
I’ve run 3” springs before and most have a high spring rate and ride like crap. RE 3.5” fronts are 240. RE 4.5” fronts are 164.
People seem to really like the OME stuff for lower lifts.

Default Tj springs?

I have a used lift kit that I am taking off a parts car and it has 4.5-inch coils springs and a 2-inch spacer on top. Making about a 6.5-inch lift in the front. I have been playing with the idea of just dropping Tj lift springs in the front to tidy the look-up. My only problem is I don't know if the TJ spring will just drop right in.I am doing an Artec front truss and gussets which might change the answer. Whatt do yall think?

Tj coils in an xj are minus 1 inch. 6” tj coils will give you approximately 5”. 2” spacers are big. I’d ditch em.
I run an Artec truss on a d30. No problems here. If you want to use tj coils the truss and gussets won’t be a problem as far as I know.

Seems solid enough and it looks like it includes all the parts to get the job done.

Looks like a complete Kit except for the SYE transfer case conversion ($250) and the new drive shaft ($850) that you will need with that tall of a lift. I have OME's full spring pack in the rear (6 leaves) and a 1-1/2" seat/spacer in front with OME coil springs to replace the stock springs and the stock1/2"seat/spacer to net a 3-1/4" actual lift front and rear - a great and very capable combo without having to buy a new drive shaft

Thanks so much for the feedback. I was looking at the 4.5" lift, do you still think the conversion and drive shaft are still necessary in that case?

Yes - unfortunately, the XJ was designed for much lighter tires then the 33's that go with that lift and it will not hold up if you wheel it or drive it hard. You'll also have to re-gear the diffs and in a short time you'll want to up-grade the brakes as the inertia of heaver tires will strain the merger stock braking system. Can you weld? That long-arm suspension will need new mounting points

A sye and shaft from Adam’s is approximately $550. Needed for anything over 3” in my opinion.
From what I see that’s a short arm kit. No welding required.
Your stock brakes will work fine.
