Oh, right. Thanks for the clarification. I'll get back to crawling the 50,000 threads about gearing and then take some lessons from google.

I know. Just having a little fun. It's so much easier to just ask. If you are cool with people on here they don't preach about the search button too bad!

just came across a steal of a deal on an xj, 96 sport, automatic, 154k with a 4.5inlift for 200 bucks and runs like a champ. sadly its sitting on stock wheels and tires so it looks a little goofy. looking to add a set of 15x8 DC2's and 31x10.50 BFG's but heres the complicated part. im currently serving in the army in germany so whatever i get ill have to order and wait at least a month or two before it gets here so i want to make sure i get the right wheel/tire combo the first time. id love to go with a 33" tire but i dont want to re gear just yet since im stuck out of country id have to do all the work at the sorry excuse for a shop we have access to here on post. has anyone had a set of DC2's for any amount of time that would know how they last over time being exposed to a lot of snow? i love the look of them but id hate to spend extra money on a set of nice looking wheels that might end up with corrosion after the winter is over when i could spend half on a set of steel wheels and hope the powder coat saves them from the salt. also, just how much drag would the 33's put on the 4.0. im a bronco guy myself and have had a few over the years, but wheeled in cheap jeeps that turned out not to be so cheap by the time it was all said and done. gas is pretty expensive here and id hate to destroy all mileage this jeep might get or lose the ability to drive on the autobahn from time to time because of a 2inch difference in tire size. back home those issues never came up and if i was curious about tires i ended up just finding a friend that had the tire size i was looking at and making sure i had the same amount of lift as them or more, or had a shop of my own to regear just about anything i wanted. any help would be appreciated greatly

I am running 33s on mine with the stock gears. It does ok I can pull off 18mpg if I keep my foot out however it instantly downshifts for damn near everything. Hills, slight inclines, minor speed changes etc. For ordering rims mine right now has stock ford ranger 5 spokes (alloys) and salt has started eating their clearcoat off after a year being here in sd vs tx. The cheap mickeyt fake locks I grabbed and wallyworld rhinolined still look like they did when I painted.

I would caveat this statement by saying an AAL with anything other than stock XJ leafs will result in a questionable ride quality... it is not necessarily a "bad idea". I cannibalized some 97 XJ springs and added the two top leafs on each side to my 98 XJ for a sweet 2.5" or so and the ride quality is fantastic. Fully loaded the back of the truck with camping gear, roof rack stuffed, four passengers, rides brilliantly and the sagging is very minimal.
The reason this works is the AALs used are of the same quality/flex as the stock leaf springs. Typical AALs I agree are pretty crappy as they are not the same type of metal.

Those look to have about 3-4 inches of BS. The wheel itself is about 12" wide. And anyone woud get stuck with that tread pattern. They look like summer racing tires.

Okay, I have a 99 grand cherokee and I want a 6.5' lift and some 36' IROK super swampers, think it would work and look good?

i am currently looking for a lift for my 95' XJ and saw a 3" spacer lift that i'm interested in. my question is, do i need to get longer shocks for that high of a lift? and if so, what would be the best brand to get?

Best or most expensive? Everyone will tell you the ones they love the most and why. I personally like rusty's offroad. Yes you will want shocks with 3" more travel than stock.

3.5" leaf + shackles OR 4.5" leaf pack
Planning on doing a 4.5" lift to accommodate 32" tires.
Should i go with 3.5" plus 1" shackle or should i just do 4.5" spring leaf.
Thx.
