sounds like 6 on one hand and half a dozen on the other to me. Either buy shackles now and packs later or packs now and shackles later. Really makes no difference.

Thx all for the replies.
I thought I read somewhere abt better off getting small leaf pack and adding shackles for more flex..... I could be wrong tho.
Anyone?.

4 link vs 2 link
Ok, did some search, didn't find what i was looking for. Im looking to fab up sone new suspension for my 88 XJ. What the biggest advantage to a long arm 4 link(5 w/track bar) verse the 2 point mount(like the rustys)?I can see where the 4 link would keep the pinion angle correct throughout the cycle as the rustys would not...other than that? ust loking for some input as i have yet to build a long arm 4x4..all previous exp was with 2 wheel drive buggies(baja 1000 cars and the what not). any input from exp trail peolpe would be helpfull.
thanks for reading

hey everyone,
i just bought my first jeep a 2000 sport and need to get new tires, i have no lift and want an affordable set of all terrain tires, any good buys out there? and also i want to get the cragar soft 8 rims and was curious as to what backspacing to get for p235/75 R15 tires, which i read is the biggest tire u can run without a lift.
Thanks

Pertinent Info:
I currently have 2" BB front and back on my Jeep.
~2" Coil Spacers
~2" Shackles
~I have YJ Brake Lines - 4-6" longer than stock brake lines.
~I Already Have 31x10.5 tires, that I want to put on After the lift.
Why I want to do it:
~I have a chance to get some "new" to me coils from a V8 ZJ (2004 less than 50,000 miles on it) - Those will gain me 1" - 1.5"
~Ive got 2 sets(4 total) of "new" to me leafs for the back
~44" add a leaf for each side. the AAL boasts 1" of gain.
What I Want To Do:
I Want to Bastard Pack my Leafs and add AAL til I get about 3" - 3.5"
Add the new Coils + the Spacers = 3" - 3.5"
Question:
Besides brake lines & alignment, what else will I / should I need to do to make sure everything is right?

Best way to determine existing lift?
Here's the deal...my 1999 XJ has some sort of pieced-together Rusty's lift (maybe) with coils, spacers(maybe 2 spacers?), AAL's, quick-release swaybar brackets, extended brake lines and lower arms.
The XJ has 12.50x33's on it, with the fenders trimmed, but the rear springs are sagging badly, as the AAL is not against the main leaf, but the 3rd leaf in the pack (starting with main leaf), and the shackles are straight up and down. I am starting on the axles first (chunking the D35 for a 8.25), but I am trying to plan for the suspension, I want to keep 33" tires for the time being, and I don't want to spend $$ that could go into the axles or bumpers on a complete new lift, and then have a mess of components to get rid of or scrap.
Is it feasible to start with some 3.5" full leaf packs to straighten out this mess in the back, add the shackle relocation kit, and go from there?
Is there a way to measure for certain the amount of current lift? I am guessing at least 4" as it sits.
