How do you measure to order to do 'proper bump-stopping' for the size tire you are getting? When I get my tires I would like to add the bump-stopping at the same time so how do I know how much more bump-stop I need and what are good places to go to find quality bump-stops?

ignoring the point that your cherokee should already have 15" wheels on it, the biggest tire you can fit without trimming/lift and no rubbing is a 235/75R15 tire

15" is the stock size. Passenger tires, you're looking at 235/75/15. Some people put up to a 31" on stock, but that gets a lot of mixed replies and it depends on what your particular XJ wants. 235/75/15s will, in my opinion, fill out fine for stock height without trimming.

You either limit according to tire size or shock compressed length (whichever is the least distance). If you're using stock style shocks, this usually means to increase the bumpstop amount by 1/2 the increase in tire diameter to avoid rubbing, but the amount will vary by how much trimming you have done, and the shocks you will be running.

They look good on the rig and filled the wheelwells without rubbing even on full turns and flexing.

I run with a guy that has 33x12.5 on a 4.5" Rusty's lift with a little fender trimming and he does great with this setup.

IMO 33x12.5 is way wide for daily hwy/trail use. I suggest a 33x10.5 for a good balance of gas economy and traction on the trail. Wide floatation tires aren't needed or desirable unless you do a lot of sand running.
But yes 33s will fit fine with a 4.5" lift and minimal fender trimming along the edges.
My personal recommendation for tires is Firestone Destination M/Ts. I've run them for over 2 years and recommend them to everyone. Excellent treadwear (55,ooo miles on my last set - on the front wheels!) and wet/dry/mud/snow traction.

will 31s fit on stock rim ?
Hey guys i found some 31 by 10.50 by 15. I have a 98 jeep cherokee its not lifted and im concerned if the tires will fit okay or if they ill rub badly ? Right now i have 235 by 75 by 15. Also could some one explain to me how i look at those 31s what size is that compared to 235 ? Reason im asking is if found 4 of vgc all terrain tires for 250 and that looks like a good deal to me.

For reference a 235/75R15 is 28.9" tall and 9.25" wide
a 31x10.5x15 is 31.0" tall and 10.5" wide
This outlines tire differences very well:

OR could I see if the bump-stops hit before the shocks bottom out and if that is true then add 1/2 the increase in tire size which now that I am writing it makes perfect sense.
I have upgraded shock that came with the RC 3" lift so I should check to see what hits first, shocks or bump-stops.
