That may not be the whole cause but it could be a contributor, if I were you I would just get a new upgraded tie rod. Then check all joints and everything touching the front axle

Will I need an sye for a 4.5 lift on a 98 sport? And what's the biggest tire I can run with out jamming into my fenders on the trail?

In likelihood you will only need a tc drop (transfer case drop) for that hight, that's what I have at 4.5 and I have 32's which is the biggest you can do and still retain the stock flares

I actually have 10.5's but you shouldn't have any issues with either fitting under the flares but the issues would more likely be against the "frame"

Cut your fennders I did and runn 33s fine and time to time I rub and cut my tires but that's rare and the fender cut itself looks real good to check mine out for an idea

Transfer case drop will put more stress on your motor mounts though, so you will need to keep an eye on them.

32"x10.5 will fit without mauling the crawler and start you on the road to destroying the clean look of your rig.

Tie rod is supposed to be able to rotate - it's a spherical joint. It is NOT supposed to move in and out or up and down though.
