Great question. Wish I had the answer. It looks like the guy cut/bent the original, and added a rectangular piece of steel for reinforcement. Just one more piece that'll be completely replaced. I'm looking to replace it all, but retain the current lift height. I'm being a noob, I know, but this is my first lifted vehicle. I have experience with lowered machines is all. Do the Rough Country shocks have that extension on the top, or is that more fabricating?

Do you have the stock flares on it still? And the shocks look like ghetto fab. You need new shocks, track bar, control arms and maybe leaf packs because those are probably screwed with too

Agreed. 110%! Yep, stock flares, and I like the 31x10.5 tire size. Tis why I'm interested in the lift height, to get the right size kit.

I think at stock hight from the center of the wheel to the bottom edge of the flare is 17" so say its 20" now than you have a 3" lift

Wow... that needs to be changed NOW along with the track bar because when the t bar fails and you start shaking around and have no steering those jank control arms will fail and your front axle is as good as gone from under your xj! No joke this is something that needs to be taken care of before you trust your and or other peoples lives in it. The shocks arnt a huge deal because they arnt vital but figure out your lift hight then get ordering parts, I would suggest rusty's offroad to get the specific parts.
Someone should go up to that guy and take his welder then punch him in the face.. just saying

Right on. Buddy of mine has Rusty's gear under his Wrangler and swears by them. I really appreciate the input and fast response. I knew I wanted to play on this forum for a reason!

Ya I stand by them too they are a great jeep specific company that offers great parts. And this forum is a godsend during certain situations and fun the feat of the time, you will enjoy your stay. Good luck fixing the po's ignorant "fabrication"

How do I determine the amount of lift it has? I really like the lift it has; not too high, or low, perfect for what I do, and the dogs and girlfriend can get in and out nicely. Hope the photos help describe my situation. Any help would be appreciated.
Holy crap dude. Get a real trackbar under that rig NOW. That cog and rig drag link welded into a track bar is NOT safe - poor design and thinner than the original. Same thing with the control arms.

Both are things that keep your vehicle on the road and under control. If one of those were to fail you'd be seriously hurt, if not killed.

Rusty make good parts, it is just that if you live on the west side of the Rocky Mountains then the shipping can be very high to get stuff from them.

All this to say that when/if you do order from Rusty's add the shipping price to the total and make a decision from there.

I looked at rustys when I was doing all the research for my lift. I live in ohio and shipping on a kit was 110. All other companies were like 60 to 80. Not that big of a difference but from 60 to 110 is. It shouldn't have mattered but it was one of the few reasons I chose not to go with Rustys.
