Okay everyone, I have a 1999 xj. I’m working on putting a 4.5'' suspension lift under it. It is my daily driver so a little at a time and when budget allows. I am doing the "Budget lift" I have put springs out of the front of an old F150 and I have air shocks in the back for now. So its not driving up hill to bad. I will be putting rear leaf packs from a Dakota and a SYE kit in ( its on order ) I do have a cv style drive shaft that was the front drive shaft from another 99 xj
That I will be using after the SYE kit is in. Now here is the problem. When I am traveling at 45mph or more, even the slightest little bump in the road will cause the jeep to shake violently! It jars your bones it is so bad... WOW. I have a snow plow that I will be using this winter that is what started the whole thing, but when I had the plow on after all this to date I didn’t have the problem as bad. I have taken the plow of for gas mileage and cooling and no snow.
I should also point out that I jacked up the front of the jeep, when I grab the tire I feel no play in anything, I also have no slop in the steering wheel. The shaking feels like it is from the driver side... Thanks for any help!

Sounds like what is often called, "death wobble". Lots of front end issues can cause it including front end alignment. The drive shaft can cause vibration but not DW. Have you done a front end alignment after doing the lift? That would be the first thing to check. Gojeep has some great DIY articles including front end alignment unders Suspension Modifications.

If the front end alignment doesn't correct the DW then you'll have to do a search on death wobble and start figuring out the specific cause for your jeep.

Bias tires wear quick. if he has bias and the lasted 25,000 miles then damn.

the radials should last twice as long as the bias ones.

check your trac bar too!!!!! make sure its tight and the proper length.

I've been researching for several months on lift options for my '98 XJ because she is sagging bad. I've settled on a 2" OME lift. It's a DD that I would like to be camping-capable without needing an SYE or transfer case drop. Unfortunately, searching for OME or Old Man Emu in the forums is not going so well since the search engine disregards search terms with less than 4 characters. So I'm posting here for recommendations to be sure I get everything I need for the lift project.

Since I just replaced the shocks, I don't really want to buy a full kit.

For the leaf springs, it looks like Quadratech has the best price @ $120 a side +S/H. I'm thinking the 2" Med. packs since I plan to build a roof rack and rear bumper w/ some modular cargo capacity (I'll post the fab projects once I get started on them). Also have bushings and U-bolts on the list.

Rocky-road.com has the OME front coil pair for about $150, but that's only $10 less than Quadratech so probably easier to just order with the leaf packs. The OME spacers are 3/8", and I'm uncertain if that is enough for leveling the ride. Should I look at thicker spacers?

So am I missing anything? Any suggestions or criticisms?

Man, I hope I'm posting in the right thread but here goes. So I basically picked up my new baby a couple of weeks ago and it's been runnin' like a champ, no problems but after some goofing off and mainly just daily driving it, I'm starting to hear some major squeaking from the rear suspension when I go over speed bumps or rough terrain. I took a look at the back and discovered my leaf springs are FLAT. So I guess my first question would be if you guys think that this could be the main cause of all the terrible squeaking not to mention the extra rough ride that the truck is getting now. If this has been posted somewhere else before then I apologize but I've been searching and haven't necessarily found the exact answer I'm looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oops forgot to mention that it supposedly has a 4 inch lift and I was hoping that you guys might be able to recommend a good set of replacement leaf springs for that saggy rear end, it's lookin like it kinda has a So-Cal style lift on it right now lol.

sounds like your lift has a poor quality add a leaf and shackles to net the 4" (when it was brand new anyways) your leaves are flat cuz they are your stock old leaves with a fat aal in it that most likely doesn't have the plastic sliders between the aal and stock leaf so it is squeaking like mad
aals don't last and the ride is junk
if i were to buy new leafs now I think I would go with the iron rock offroad springs because they look tough and I haven't heard anything bad about IRO yet

I say it way too ofyen. But iro is amazing. Ive got full leafs from them, no noist, good ride. Beefy and great flex

IRO is hands down where im getting my lifts from, from now on. and other parts too...
