great, thanks. What is the advantage to full springs? I know little about truck style suspension. Subaru guy here

They're softer because the whole leaf pack is holding the jeep up instead of one leaf and take alot longer to sag(10+ years)

Full springs basically make your rear end brand new (at least the springs), but taller than stock. An Add-a-Leaf (AAL) uses one leaf that you attach to your old worn-out pack. The entire weight of the rear is supported by that one arch, and it gives an uncomfortable ride as well as a very short life span.

I was at the junk yard looking for parts for my xj yesterday. I got leaf springs from a newer s10 and set of 2" lift spring from a 78 ford bronco and a few other parts.
Has anyone come across lift spring for a bronco and has anyone ever used lift springs from another truck on there xj?

I have a completely stock '01 cherokee and I want to try to put a 3" budget boost on. I do not do much off roading and when I do its not very extreme so it is mostly driven on the road. I did a lot of research on what I should need and just want to be confirmed.
For the front, is this all I will need: stock isolator spacers or will I also have to get bigger coil springs to get up to 3"?
For the rear, I wasnt going to plan on using blocks at all so how big of shackles could I use? Will I also need to do the bastard pack or will longer shackles get me all the way up to 3"?
As you can probably tell I do not know a whole lot about this so I appreciate any help that I can get.
Thanks

dunno about a lift spring from a bronco, but it should provide quite a bit of lift, there is quite a bit on bronco springs in the thread "what junkyard parts will fit a cherokee/XJ" (or something like that, having connection issues and cant post the link. bronco coils give a few inches of lift but have a harsh ride according to that thread, lift springs would give more, Id think.

You might not be able to do a shackle lift to 3" with stock springs. That would add at least 6-7" more shackle than stock. Perhaps doable but for the same cost and effort a bastard pack would be better, IMO.

Check the "junkyard parts" thread for alternate spacer/lift combos. If you can find one, T bird springs would put it up there ok. I broke down and bought Rusty's springs having given up on finding T-bird coils. They were only about a hundred bucks for the set. Supposedly you could use a stack of spacers in there but youd have to find a way to keep them together if you went over too much of a bump. I wouldnt even consider it, personally. Again, check the junkyard parts thread for ideas, and for the rear, try to go s10 or dodge springs, blocks or shackles with stock springs wont last long at all. I have a stock jeep that is wrapped pretty bad with no lift (and is now probably an inch or two lowered due to sag). Using blocks or shackles would require a light foot on the gas and huge bumpstops to keep the spring flex to less that stock.

(added) I just figure that the bastard pack costs about $20-50 to do and can last quite a while, whereas blocks or shackles will cost about the same and you will need new springs in a year or two anyway.

Or you could trade me jeeps. I have a 93 already lifted with custom bumpers and all. Wouldnt have to worry about it! Lol.

I'm getting ready to put a 4.5" lift on my XJ and I need new tires, most likely 32 or 33s. Any suggestions?

Rusty's Offroad sells a good 4.5" kit. XJ Cherokee 4.5" Spring Pack Kit

I got a 3" Rusty's kit with 0.75" coil spacers and 0.75" extended shackles. Wish I had went with the 4.5" kit instead. I have more money in my 3" lift then I would have if I had gone with their 4.5" kit. I stand by Rusty's.

In the front, 3" is too much IMO to use the spacers - get new coil springs

In the back, if this is a DD you will DESPISE how blocks and shackles ride. Blocks have the wonderful trait of snapping leaf springs under axle warp as well - not fun. For a sweet riding 3" you need to get new leaf springs, or do a bastard pack (i recommend Dakota leaf springs for this).

Once you factor in the cost of other things you will need (shocks, Transfer case drop, adjustable track bar, etc), you may as well get a complete kit. Stay away from Add-a-leaf kits also since they tend to sag and ride terrible.

Suggestions based on other's experiences:
Rough Country (add full leafs): http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_3.html
Rusty's: http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchan...ode=sus_xj_kit

I was actually looking for suggestions on tires, but that helps too. I was trying to decide between Rusty's and Rough Country for the kit anyway.

I almost got Goodyear Duratracs before I found mine on CL. I've never heard anything bad about them. A few of the members I know run Firestone Destination M/Ts. Again, everyone I've talked to loves them, but I'm not sure about sizes for those. They seem to be getting hard to find.

I really think you should take a look at iron rock offroad also. They are not to be left out on the list

Scott i don't really have a picture but when I flex mine out the shackle ends up vertical at full droop, and almost touches the back at full compression. At normal ride height it's at 45 degrees +/-.

Normal:
