Default Tomken 4" lift, confused on some details

Well you probably figured it out by the title but i i'm really looking into a Tomken 4" lift kit, i know mostly everything involved with the kit already but for safety's sake i'm gonna clear up some details with some fellow XJ owners. Okay here we go, the description on Quadratec say it comes with Break line extension brackets...does it come with just the brackets or break lines too? Secondly is an SYE recommended for a 4" lift? And lastly if an SYE is recommended, should i go with the $199 option or the $349 option? http://ironrockoffroad.com/Merchant2...egory_Code=XDT

The bracket is just that, a bracket. Not a new line but it will work just fine. And get the $199 dollar one. You don't need a custom drive shaft. A refurbished one will do just fine. You may not even need the SYE but chances are you will if its a 97+. Lift it first and if it has vibes then get the SYE. Also what t case do you have? I'm not 100% positive but I believe that is for 231's and not 242's.

Is the Rough Country a good starter lift kit ? Just bought some 17" wrangler rims and tires and they dont fit under my fender. Looking at a 3" kit. Is the sway bar thing needed or not. $255 vs $355. Is that enough lift to clear the tire? its 31" and i dont want to get into extending d/s. Thanks

Get the series 2 kit. It's got control arms and yes you need the drop bracket if you're gonna leave the sway bar on. And are you sure the 17's are the right bolt pattern? I thought stock 17" wrangler wheels were a larger bolt pattern?

TJ rims are 16" with 5x4.5 pattern (matches XJ pattern)
Anything newer than '06 (LJ/JK) is 17" with 5x5 pattern

LJ is a TJ Unlimited. The only designation I've seen for JK Unlimited is JKU.
To clarify, YJ and TJ/LJ Wranglers (that's '87-06) have a 5x4.5 bolt pattern that matches our XJs. The newer JKs (starting in '07) have 5x5.

What's the largest tire I can run on factory TJ Moab wheels without spacers on a 3.5 inch lift? I do not want to remove the flares. The back spacing on this rim is not optimal but I would rather run small tires than rub. I do have aftermarket jks lower control arms. Right now I have 245/75/16. Could I go 265/75/16? If I choose to trim in the future could I run 285/75/16 or would the backspacing on the wheel be the limiting factor.

Brian you can fit a 265 now, a 285 would likely fit with a good bit of trimming without spacers (it's basically a 33x11.5), but you might have to adjust your steering stops

Interesting. I've got a brand new set of 5 Goodyear MTR tires in 245 that I might have to sell.

The make decent street tires. As far as offroad tires they have the Wildpeak A/T which is ok for an a/t I've heard, never run them though

I love my tires to the point I won't buy much else. Firestone Destination M/Ts
