How does Water not kill electrical components? Granted most alternators have a substance that covers the wires for protection, but I don't see how it will make an alternator last longer.

I know zacksxj has got something to say, right?
For 31s I wouldn't buy new rims, stock wheels work just fine. You have to deal with a little bit of rubbing on LCAs but not anything that will inhibit drivability. Personally I say you should save the money for when you eventually get 33s or bigger tires and will need rims to match. If you really want to get new wheels a minimum of 4.5" BS will prevent rubbing on the LCAs

They're designed to have water get in them and not hurt them(otherwise the first time it rained and your alternator got wet you'd have to buy a new one), water will prolong the life of an alternator by cleaning out all the crap that inevitably gets inside them.

They're not exactly super complicated either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternator

Water WILL kill electrical components if it causes a short circuit, but from my experience getting clean water in an alternator will do no harm(Talking driving through 8" of water at 30mph, the whole engine bay was dripping afterwards)
Muddy water will cause all kinds of hell with one though, the silt and crap in muddy water will cause the brushes to stop working, it'll kill bearings and just not be nice to an alternator in general.

hmmm never thought about that, plus alternator cases are made out of aluminum so the wires inside cant ground to it. Thats cool. Thanks for the info Zach.

....last time I checked aluminum was electrically conductive. They used it for wiring in houses during prior decades. The wiring inside them isn't grounded to the case though.

I highly doubt that the XJ you saw on 32s was on a RC 3" AAL kit, it just doesn't work. If anything he was on a 4.5" kit with 32s as those are the recommended tire size for a 4.5" lift.
Guess i am one of those people that has to find out for myself. I just dont see 32's not fitting seeing how stock i have 30's and they fit fine.

i thought about it but my rims right now dont match and they look like...
I like the all black rims (yes i know everyone has them but i like them and get a military discount) so i went ahead and got them. I got new adjustable control arms with my kit so i will make sure that the wheels have 4.5 bs

I'm about to get a 2.5" or a 2" lift. Problem is I can't find any kits that come with full leafs for either of these other than the OME $800+ kit. Everything else is much cheaper but comes with AAL's. Would it make sense to get one of the cheaper lifts and buy full leafs seperately? Anyone have any suggestions?

LOOKING AT THESE SOFT 8s, NOT SURE ABOUT BACKSPACING DIFFERENCES..
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRR-3975812/

for a lift im looking at the RC 3" with full leaf packs or this rustys lift. which one is better quality?

http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchan...ode=sus_xj_kit

i currently have 30x9.50s on my 98 xj right now and will get 31s when they wear out. the jeep is a daily driver so i want it to still be streetable. but still capable off road. will i need a transfer case drop or anything else with this lift? where can i get good control arms?

also how do i tell what axles i have? are they marked? will be changing the diff covers too.

thanks

4" B.S with a 3" lift is fine.

RC is a better choice.

2 or 2.5 inch kits are significantly cheaper and I only need to clear 30x9.5x15's. The idea is to SAVE money or I would have gotten a 4.5'' with 32's.

if you want full leafs for only 2 inches just make a bastard pack out of some s 10 or dakots leafs. its the cheapest and easiest way without getting an aal.

Im new to the forum scene. I am wanting to get a 3in lift. Would it be a good idea to start a thread on different vendors' kits as far as quality, price and ride, or would that be getting into an advertisement issue? I have done A LOT of searching on here but no blow by blow comparisons of the subject.

what are you trying to do? get advice from peoples experiences on this site or the sellers opinions? if you need info on what kit you should get or what tires you should run with what lift then this is the right thread..

Just installed my RC 3" with full packs and I am looking to get a new adjustable trac bar and steering stabilizer to fix some of the wobble (already got an alignment). What trac bar should I get to go with the 3" lift?
