Are you planning on bigger tires in the future? Cause I know alot of people will tell you that the d35 is crap, but it should handle 31's fine unless you really beat on it. Save some money if you can.

Hmm well, I run 32 11.50 tires on my d35 and have been a bit rough on it and it still works fine. Although if you do want to change the gear ratio to handle a larger tire, then the d35 really isn't worth it.

I'll be going to 32 or 33s later so that's why I plan to do the swap. Plus I can get a 8.8 with 4.10s and factory ls for a good deal. Would 4.10s be too low for 31s? Should I go 373s? Thanks

Using the dana 35 would be pushing it depending on what kind of wheeling you do. Many jeeps came with the chrysler 8.25 which should be an easy swap I imagine, i've never done it though. I'd guess if they were made to fit a jeep and the suspension is pretty much the same for all xj's you could probably find a scrap yard one. The 8.25 is a good axle and I'm lucky enough to have one in the jeep I just started to build. Plus if you got one off of a jeep that had the factory tow package, it would have 3.73 gears.
