question: what tire, AT or a MT would fit better for a only DD and a weekend warrior. I do rock crawling and snow for my off roading and rain and snow with mountain roads as our DD with some long, 2 or 3 hours, hwy trips once a month.

I am leaning towards the AT but I know when I am out off roading I will kick myself for not having MT's. This is the problem, I cant make up my mind, I keep going back and forth.
A good set af AT's like BFGs will definitely get the job done depending on the severity/difficulty of the rocks, snow, mud... i dont know what size you are loking for but heres some great options

really aggressive a/t's would be your best bet. look around and read all you can. or a not so aggressive m/t. many top brands have them.

Unless you are planning on reusing your shocks i would say just get some vice grips on those babies to keep them from turning and go to town. if you plan on reusing them maybe just put a rag or two on use the vice grips and do it thats all i can think of though.

Others have reported very good things about the Goodyear Duratracs - cheap, and a very aggressive a/t with great road manners and off-road capability. Sounds perfect for you!

I run M/Ts on my DD, and have no issues though... I run Firestone Destination M/Ts (awesome traction and road manners, and got 61k miles out of my last set)

On to the questions. On my old rig I ran 31x10.50s I still had all my turning radius and didn't hit my lca. My dad runs 33x12.50s with stock lca and drop brackets. His rub on his lca before he gets full lock. I want to keep the turning radius. BUT I want 33" duratracs which only come in a 12.50. I'm going to run the rough country long arms would the 12.50s still rub on the lca? I plan on having at least 3.75 BS on the wheels too.

Thanks
RC recommends 33 12.50 tires for their 6.5" long arm kit and with that backspacing I'd doubt you'd have any issues unless you really got the tire stuffed up in there.

Doubt it tin snips like to make those little folds when you cut with them I think I would use a cut off wheel, but I've never done it so I'm not really sure

Ifs I get the rims in my price range that have the 4.25 backspacing can I add spacers later to prevent rubbing? This might be a stupid question but if I do use spacers are they only needed on the front wheels?

Well i dont see why it wouldnt work with just the front but if you look at your xj from behind you will see as it goes twards the front it slims in so your front tires appear to stick out more than the rear already so doing that on just the front will look like they stick out an INSANE ammount more so i would reccommend both
