Btw, why the hell do you need 8" of lift? You running 40" tires? And don't forget the added cost of SYE, longer drivelines, axle upgrades, etc as the domino affect of 8" sets in.
First off thanks for the quick replies. The BDS Quote is OTD with an omnixx SYE and new shafts. Don't really know why I want 8" just figured I go big one time and not end up wanting more. I had this happen with my Truck. Since I've been looking I am leaning towards 6.5" but if I went BDS I would just do the 8" since the 6.5" is only $200 cheaper.

Most if not all lift kits are bolt on, instructions i'm not really sure about cause I never actually bought a kit. All depends on your mechanical ability. Your gonna need a few days to work on it, a nice garage or flat surface, lots of pb blaster and a torch, grinder with cut off wheel, maybe a sawzall, basic mechanics tools, breaker bar with cheaper pipe, and some other stuff im sure. Having a buddy to help with make things go smoother also. If you run into a problem you can always search for it on here, or just post a new thread. What I always say is give your self plenty of time, like if you start on Sunday and you have to get to work on Monday morning thats just gonna cause you to worry and screw up things. You can do it your self and save a couple of grand, not to mention you can find some really nice used stuff on the net for half the price sometimes.
Thanks for the advice, could definitely take my time since she's a 3rd vehicle but still leary of the torches etc... Got friends with mechanical experience but very little time to spend on my crap due to their own.

If your gonna be rock crawling at all 8" or even 6.5 it's gonna get you real tipsy quick. If your looking to go mud bogging the higher the better. On rocks a lower center of gravity is the name of the game. Alot of people are going with a 4.5 inch and 33's to keep a low cog.

A lower

Ah, the SYE and drivelines makes more sense. I understand your philosophy on the lift and agree with "do it once do it right" wholeheartedly. Just know that the XJ is a very capable wheeler with minimal lift and tires and you'd be surprised where they'll go. I'm at 6" right now with 33's and it's just too tall in my opinion. I am looking at lowering it a bit for better stability and safer COG offroad.

Good luck!

Good gosh thats an enormous rip-off. For that price you could get a TnT Long Arm upgrade, buy separate leaf packs, and squishy front springs with ACOS annd get Bilstein 5150s with money left over. Not to mention at 8" I hope you have fun keeping the rig from flopping or going belly-up.

Most lift kits are 100% bolt-on. I dont know about Sky Jacker and others but I know BDS, TnT and others are. The one exception to that rule is Long Arm kits where removal of the stock LCA brackets with an angle grinder is required.

Alright guys i'm getting ready to order my 3" rough country lift form jcwhitney.com. I'm getting
(1) 3" lift kit which includes front lift coil springs, rear add-a-leaf springs, and U bolts
(4) nitro 9000 shocks
(4) dust boots
All for 278.94$(not including shipping). Is that a good price and does that cover everything i need?

Since this is the ALL LIFT thread, I thought I would ask a couple questions about doing a bastard pack. Is it better to use leaves off a 2WD or a 4WD? My XJ is my daily driver and the most flex that I see is from a few deep ruts on gravel roads of Southeast MN, so I am looking for 2"-3". I just dont want to have to change brake lines and all that stuff. I just want to add one/some S-10 or Dakota springs in the rear and a spacer in the front. Any Ideas would be amazing! Thanks

I just put three inches on my 99. THe rear brake line was attached to the axle but i just took it out of the bracket and it was fine. You should be fine at two inches, it just might be streched pretty tight...what year is it

I just did a rough country one last weekend. I added control arms and discos. You can get away with just that, but you might want to wait a little and save up some money and do it right. When you put the lift on you dont "need" control arms and other stuff but it is better to do it. When my buddy took mine off he explained to me that if you dont get the longer control arms it pulls back on the coils or bumpstops and puts them at an angle (dont jump me guys if Im wrong but Im just telling him what i saw on mine). As far as the add a leaf everyone says they break or sag. I was driving down the interstate today and saw one that had done this. If you call RC and ask talk to them you will get a better price then the one advertised online too. If you do that ask for jason.

My jeep is a 98. The only reason I am looking for a bit of a boost is because I put 225/75/15 American Racing wheels on it and they stick out a little wider. The rear leaves are sagging and when I hit bumps while driving my tires rub the rear fender flares. Could it also mean that I need new shock absorbers?

Are they still the ones that came on it originally? Mine were so far gone that when we took them off I compressed them and three hours later they were still compressed. If they are the original you should replace them too. Mine came stock with 225 tires so you shouldnt need much. You could go budget boost for an inch or two or you could fix everything.

Oops confused the links. Im not to familiar with the junkyard lifting. If they are original shocks though you should definetly replace them

Are there any dependability or performace issues to be considered using 15x7 wheels versus 15x8 with 30x9.5 tires? Is one better than the other for any reason or difference in inflation pressure recommendations?

i lifted mine last weekend and now know i need a new trac bar, well i dont have to have it but Im pretty sure that it would help to get that inch back. I know rustys makes one that adjust from 2"lift to 5" lift which is good cause Im all ready jonesing. Anyone know what all I would need to mount an adjustable one on her?

This is the one from rustys page
http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchan..._Code=SUS_TRAC

I have a swap meet tommorow and Im gonna look there too, hopefully find something cause rustys is killer on shipping. So what all do i need to get to get it on there from factory trac bar? Any other brands or recomendations would be nice too because rustys has gotten many mixed reviews on here

For the model in the link you need nothing it bolts right in place of your stock track bar. Some model are double shear with a frame mount to replace the stock track bar mount at the frame end. I've heard a few goods things about this one and its good bang for your buck.
