I have a 2000 XJ 4.0L sport with automatice trans and axle ratio of 3.55. I'd like to add a lift and some larger tires, possibly 31 or 32 inch tires. Unfortunately I have the Dana rear axle and not an 8.25".

What is the lowest dollar option for a lift and larger tires? I have a friend that just put a 2" spacer lift on his TJ and a set of 31's.

The jeep is street driven, it's my work car/daily driver but I do have another truck to drive when this one undergoes surgery.

Any advice appreciated. I'm not looking to spend a fortune.
If the jeep is only going to be street driven or even occasional light wheeling without a locker, you don't need to worry about the dana 35 rear, IMO. There's just not that much torque or rough abuse on normal roads to torment it. You would probably run into some power/economy issues at stock gearing (see below).

The lift I have been recommending is the bastard pack others have mentioned for the rear ($40), and new Rusty's coils for the front (about $110 now for any lift up to 3.5" IIRC, they've gone up!). You can use the S10 shocks rear (cheap to free when you get the springs), and I got Rusty's shocks for the front (I think it was like $30 for the pair). Makes it about $180-200 for a full spring lift, no AALs or spacers!

For bump stops, use hocky pucks for the front (shoe-goo glued to the metal pad on the axle where the stock bumpstop hits), and square tube spacers for the back. You will have to carefully flex the jeep turning the wheels lock to lock to check how much bumpstop you need (basically flex until it rubs, and either bumpstop or trim/pound accordingly).

It depends on what gear ratio you start with and what you are doing with it.

Street driving example:

Starting gear ratio: 3.73:1
Starting tire size: 29"
New tire size: 31"

31/29=1.0689....

3.73X1.0689...= 3.9872...

The two closest gear ratios that would bring it back to stock would be 3.90 and 4.10... If the tires are wider than stock, or you are doing mostly city driving, the 4.10 would be a better choice (and 3.90 may not be an option in some axles).

If you are mostly doing forest trail wheeling, moderate crawling, general off roading, bump down a ratio to 4.56 (where I'm headed with 33-34" tires). If you are going for more extreme crawling and technical stuff with lockers, 4.88.... BUT...

IMO, if you need to add a locker or go passed 4.10 on a dana 35 rear axle, change the axle first. Ford 8.8s can be found with 4.10 gears already for nearly what it costs for a ring and pinion for the D35 (after adding cheaper axle conversion costs), and you end up with a stronger axle to boot.

Will an adjustable track bar for a jeep tj wrangler fit a jeep cherokee? My xj is 3" lift. This track bar is for a 4" procomp lift. It is adjustable though and looks the same as an xj.

Well procomps website says it's good for a 2-5" lift and it's adjustable. It also lists it as the same track bar for cherokees

Then you should be fine. TJ and xj have the same axle I just don't know about the body mount.

Do you or anyone else mind checking to give me a better idea? Here is the link to the adjustable track bar Page on procomp website. If you don't mind looking at the xj one and the tj one. On the drop down it says it's good for 2-5" of lift but the actual track bar says it's perfect for 4" lift. I think the xj and tj ones are the same.

They are also the same part numbers. With an adjustable track bar, do I need a drop Pitman arm for it to fit?

The track bar has nothing to do with the pitman arm. And at 3" your pitman arm is fine. Also iron rock offroad has a badass track bar and its cheaper!

Haha thanks man for all the help. Let's just hope it fits a 3" lift. It says it will fit 2-5" but it also says it's for a 4" lift.

Get ahold of the person selling it and ask how long it is threaded all the way in. And the end of it kind of looks like its set up for a double shear bracket.

Alright. I have no knowledge on adjustable track bars but can you not just twist the end that screws in and out so that the hole is facing upward so that you can mountain it on the stock bracket?
