Every tire is different. I ran my 31's on stock wheels at 35psi on the street and 10psi on the trail

Default The right combination...

If I put on a 2'' lift trim my fenders and put on a set of spacers could I put on 31's and not rub very much?

You could just run 31's trimmed with no lift if you bumpstop a little.

If money isn't an object, its best to get rims that sit out further.

Dunno, i was hoping someone else would add on... Anyways i have the same issue with 31/10.5's rubbing on the control arm. I just deal with it and try not to turn hard.

For cheap, look at cragar soft 8s or v-5s 15x7 5x4.5 bolt pattern and either 3.75 or 4.0 backspacing. They are $50 a piece http://www.jegs.com/i/Cragar/260/365-5712/10002/-1 3.75 sticks out further than the 4" backspacing. Hope this answers some questions.

Less likely to fail/break from what I've heard.

Spacers add a possible failure point, and they require maintenance/checks. Wheels are wheels.

What is the back spacing on the stock wheels so i can figure out what I will actually gain by going that route? I have a stock 1991 Cherokee Sport.

5 or 5.25 can't remember, 4.0 or 3.75 is perfect for an xj with wide tires, there is no sense in adding a point of failure with spacers when wheels only cost a few more dollars.
