I got a quote of $965 for a 2" budget lift and a complete rear brake job (drums, shoes, springs) all installed and aligned.

Kit is springs, AAL, and new shocks. Brand is Rubicon Express

Decent deal or no? I know I should go with full leafs, but the Jeep may need some maintenance before I go too crazy so I don't want to blow a ton of cash.

install it yourself and save a ton of $$. very simple job for a budget boost

I may end up doing so. I fear that the shock bolts may cause issues from what I've read. 12 years of rust and abuse isn't cool to work with. I dropped my S-10 myself back in the day so I don't really see any reason not to do it myself, but it was only a couple years old.

Default adjustable control arm set up

Hi just got my adjust arm set from rough country and was looking for the chart for set up , have 5 inch of lift at rear tire and am waiting for the control arm lowering kit for the front . will have 5 inch there too.Thanks.

If you have control arm drop brackets coming then your control arms need to be set up for 1" of lift. Not 5". The drop brackets are 4" drop (rubicon express)

i just picked this the other day and wanted some advice. i was told that the jeep is lifted with blocks and spacers. i think it's only 2.5-3" lift but i still hear blocks are bad. the PO has 33x12.50s on it but they may be a little big from what i'm reading. i'm seeing you guys have 4.5" lifts with only 31s on them.

i mainly use the truck on the street and really only got it to do kid duty and drive back and forth to work. the only off roading i'd do is the occasional trail ride and it would be used as a rescue vehicle towing a trailer to come get me when on my dualsport motorcycle if i were to break down.

i really like the look of the truck but i can't help thinking that it would feel like it had a lot more power if i had some 31s on it and maybe a lot better gas mileage as well?

i don't really have to worry about flex too much since i live in Fl. and it's flat here.

any advice of what to do?

me and a buddy just did my zj and with a spring compressor it took 30 mins each side. this is including shocks. all we used was a torch

That looks more like 4.5-5" of lift to me. No way that's only 2.5-3" of lift with stock fenders. You should be fine with it. Get under the jeep and look for blocks and spacers, and if your tires rub then you can get 33x10.50 tires or smaller.

there is definatly some roughly 3" tall spacers (blocks?) on the rear leaf springs and some spacers on top of the coils that are about 2.5-3" thick. the PO also told me he put 09 wrangler shocks on it cause the stockers were too short.

PS. i guess i forgot to mention that the front fenders are cut and the flares have been moved up. the rear fenders have not been cut.

I found this on craigslist

"I have a pair of 4in lift coils for ranger $50 "



I was wondering if these coils would work for my 99 XJ ... i dont care if i get 4" of lift 2-3 would be fine with me (since the ranger has a weanie 4 cyl or 3.4 six)

Yeah, looking at the pictures I can tell the flares have definitely been moved up in the front.

For leaves its called a block, for coils its called a spacer.

They look the exactly the same as a set of xj lift coils, but looks can be deceiving. I'm not sure if they would fit, but what I would do is buy them and install them. If they work sweet, if not sell them for 50 bucks. Either way you win.

so they fit correctly? i do like the way it looks and rides. i'll measure the blocks in the rear tomorrow if i get a chance. are the blocks ok for the type of driving i do? from what i have read so far the worst it could do is ruin the leaf springs correct? if it is a 4" or more block then a simple rear shackle wouldn't get me where i needed to be then would it? if i would have to replace the springs anyways i could atleast buy some time knowing that i'm only damaging a part that will need to be replaced anyways.

i also don't have the transfer case lowered. the PO gave me the lowering kit but i have no vibes and the angle doesn't seem too extreme so i didn't install it. if you guys think it'll help or that i need it i'll install it. i don't really need the extra inch of ground clearance but i figured it rides nice so why mess with it. the PO put 5,000 miles on it like this, he did replace a u joint though.


also a tire question. i'm running Maxxis bighorns right now. the fronts are worn about 80% while the rears look almost new. not sure why this is, the PO said he did the lift, tires etc all at the same time, the rims do look new.

is it typical for the bighorns to wear this fast? i like the look and ride of this tire and it seems to work well in the sand. my buddy had buckshots on his 06 rubicon and they lasted a very long time. it would be a huge bonus if i could find a decently priced tire that looks mean and lasts a long time. i would probly loose some of the mean look to gain mileage though.

to measure the actual lift. measure from the top of the axle tube(the actual tube, not steering linkages or knuckls the actual tube) to the bottom of the frame rail(not bump stops or brackets)

the front stock is 6 3/4"
the rear stock is 6"

Anything higher than that is your lift.

I'm at stock height, but picking up a set of 15x8 at 4 or 4.5 inches of backspace. Is the largest tire I can run still a 235/75 or 30x9.5 or will that wheel let me go larger?
