Default MN lift

This is my first post here and i have read many diffrent lift ideas and so far i hear that rustys is not on anyone list of likes.

Other then buying a real rear break line where is the problem with this kit $438.00 thats cheaper then the others so far.

I have a 98 cherokee baby has 180k on it and runs like a champ but it has stock everything and i need to fix that.

Any help will be great im buying my first house since being out of the USMC so i need to think low cost for now and i am in MN so i want to make this a great ice/snow jeep oh and this is my daily driver.

Go over to NAXJA.org and look up Grimusxj. He works at rough country. Tell him what you want to do and he will set you up reasonable. to do a 3" lift on a dd you should plan on a transfer case drop (maybe a SYE but not likely) and either shimming your lower control arms http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/ has info on that --or new lower control arms. A new track bar or redrilling the mount (see go-jeep again for that)
Solid advice--- No matter what lift you go with, someone will complain about it. I have used some stuff from Rough Country and have been happy. I've also used Rubicon express good stuff there. I've also made my own-cheaper and better because I got exactly what I wanted. Rusty has suffered from very low customer service ratings and it seems a higher than average amount of part failures in the past. I can't speak to where his stuff is now.
The absolute best advice/service in the jeep world is at DPGoffroad.com you won't find anyone who has a problem with Dirk.

I have always had Rusty's lift coils and leaves out back with no problems at all. I am running Rusty's LCA's also. People have opinions and like stated above Rusty's customer service is not the greatest. My .02

I went the cheap route on mine. Daystar coil spring spacers on the front, Teraflex lift shackles on the back. This gave me a 2" lift for around a hundred bucks. I had to bend my tailpipe, in order to clear the shackles. I tried lift blocks on a different XJ, and I wouldn't recomend them. I needed to lift mine, because I am in MI where we get a lot of snow like you. I needed clearance for tire chains. I also put General Grabber AT2 tires on, and was very impressed with them this winter.

I have run a bunch of his stuff and never had any problems at all. Even when I did have stuff break, I called up and talked to him, and had new parts within the week...but everyone has had different experiences.

i got the 3" rustys lift i like the ride and you can get a rear flex hose from autozone for like $15 use a YJ one its 3" longer than stock XJ

ok heres my question. i am planning on lifting my xj 4.5-5.5 with an sye. i want to run 33's on it. should i do the 4.5" or the 5.5"

also i have the tires narrowed down to firestone destination mt's or a bridgestone dueler at revo?

any thoughts?

do you want to do any trimming? what are you using this for, rocks? trails? mud? it makes a difference. dd go 4.5, offroading with rocks involved, 5.5. now this is just from my observasions, not written in stone. but this is what i would do if i where planning on that much lift.
and personally, i like the firstones, but bridgestones are decent.

well i want to do alot of trails and possibly some rocks if i can grow the ***** for that kinda stuff lol. so im thinkin the 5.5" here in a month or so but who knows. i replaced all the gaskets in my xj yesterday and its still making some of the same noises lol might need a new head but possibly a new engine all together.

as far as the tires go i work at firestone so the tires arent gona be that big a deal im just worried that 33" mt's are gona raddle the teeth out of my head goin down the road lol

Which 3" kit are you getting? I know they have a series 2 and a standard. Beyond what the kits offer maybe an adjustable track bar, extended rear brake lines, swaybar disconnects or extended links. Also if at all possible get new leaf packs.

I have been doing some research..and i have decided on going with the rough country series 2 3" kit...and im also buying a steering stabilizer and a t-case drop.....will i need anything else!!!?????(brake line extensions?) and I have stock jeep rims on my xj....that have 235/75/15's on them...will i be able to put 31/10.5/15 on those stock rims!!!????

Default What do I need?

I've been thinking about piecing together a 3" lift fot the xj. I'm planning on just using some j/y parts to build it. Budget is limited when your 17. I was wondering what other parts I need besides coils, leafs, and shocks. Do I need a new trac bar or brake lines? What's needed, and what is optional? Also, for any of these parts, what's the best value out there? Thanks for any input.
