1997 XJ Sport DD and fun

Looking for a 3.5" lift with new rear springs (not aal) shocks and hardware. Can't find any specific info on vendors. Heard good things about RE, but something about the bushings... OME seems to have good products but don't have a 3.5" kit... rough country has good prices but everyone says the ride is harsh, but is it bearable? If it is and doesn't blow my wallet in half I would just deal with it. I would also go higher (4.5" max) but don't think I'll have the money for a SYE and with my luck a TC drop won't help with vibrations... Just making a shopping list for when I have the money. I know its not cheap, and I'm not using the old "best bang for your buck". Any info will help.

I think around 3" is max before you start looking at lca/drag link/ sye/ brake lines/ etc.

I've heard some need x-fer case drop at even 2".

Search around, some stock wrangler shocks will work I think, and you can get 3/4 of an inch or so with BPE's, which can be bought or made from rear sway bar mounts.
I'm working out the details of my budget boost... i'm the kinda guy that likes to workout a plan of attack before diving in to the wallet or project....

I've lined up 4 JK Wrangler Rubicon OEM take-off shocks with <5K miles for 40 bucks total.

Two 97 s10 leafs ... for 40 total (i have to remove and jerry rig it to still move)

I'm going to "build" some Coil Spacers

My last step is the Coil Springs... Ideally I'd like the UP-COUNTRY (grand cherokee 99-04) front coils but those are rare as manual transmission XJ's

Would the JK Rubicon front coils work...? i could get them cheap.

Would the rear ZJ coils lift more then the front ZJ coils... i've heard of ZJ owners doing a front to back coil swap to gain lift... or maybe im crazy?

Oh and thanks to everyone who helped me on my OFF ROAD LIGHTS... i owe ya a beer or two... the problem was the relay was a 24 V not a 12 V... and the switch was a POS harbor frieght switch... but its bad *** now.

Default RE 3.5 or RC 4.5?

Just deciding between the two. Both are roughly the same price with shocks and full leaf packs.

First off...what will the net lift be with both of these. I have read through this forum and there are couple of different answers. Can anyone tell me how much lift they got out of these?

I will do mostly on road driving with occasional off road, so the ride quality is important to me.

Also, I don't really want to get into SYE or DS.

Let me know what you think.

OK. I Know I asked this question before somewhere but it was quite a while ago and I can't for the life of me remember what all was said. I have read several posts here in this thread and can't quite decide if this will work or not.

My plan is to get new Cragar wheels with 4" back spacing. I already have a 2' budget lift (not installed yet) and I want to get 31x 10.5 tires. My fenders are not trimmed and I really only use my XJ to go back and forth to work and I want to set it up to be really capable in sand so I know wider = better. Unfortunately it seems that if you want wider you keep having to go taller too. If they made a 31x12.5 I would want those lol.

I now have the money all saved up for both the new wheels and the tires as well. I just need to get the lift on. I just don't want to order the tires and end up not being able to fit them on.

Guess I'll ask this here to.

In my other thread somone posted a good list of junk yard upgrades and one of them was late 70's f150/bronco coils that would add 4-4.5 of lift. Well I have read now that they only add 2" of lift and the same can be done with better results from the v8 grand cherokee coils. I have also seen that the grand cherokees only add 1".

So I've got a 1-4.5 variation on these coils and REALLY need some clarification. If they add 2" inches I can use 2" spacers and get my 4". If they add 4" great! If they only add 1" they wont work

If read this info from this forum as well as this site, which is a great write up for a budget lift btw!
http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...udget_Lift.htm

Help on the TRUE lift amount gained from f150/bronco or grand cherokee coils greatly appreciated!

Notes: I've already got Dakota leaf packs to make a BP, I'll be getting RC nitro 9000 shocks and yj brake lines, for now.... I don't plan on going past 4" with 31's but at that point improving flex, drive ability and longevity on parts by adding lca's, a sye, all new bushings, tierods, u-joins and maybe one day a d44 and lockers

Ok, I have been trying to get a RE 3.5" super ride kit. What all else will need to get? Will I need a drop pitman arm, if so how much drop? Will I need a new trac bar? will I need controll arm drop brackets?

Hey, I like the concept of grouping the tire and lift questions here, but it seems there are less replies or answer posts to specific question posts as in separate threads. I'm not sure how to improve it but does anyone else see the rambling pattern here? I'm new here so if the intention for replies is more PM based , let me know what I am missing.

Not complaining, just want to make it better.

so that would make 6" in front and 5" in rear... longer brake lines, slip yoke eliminator, new shocks... etc... unless you have a big chunk of change burning a hole in your pocket... id leave it alone...

00xj i'm pretty sure no drop pitman arm needed, control arm drop brackets no because those are for 4in and up lifts but double check with re and you can drill a hole and move the track bar over but if yours is worn get a new one and make sure its adjustable as most people eventually go bigger even when they swear they wont.
