I think just the main leave is 2 inches roughly and then the main plus the secondary is like 3, so if you had a 2 inch shackle and want to get to close start I would just the 1 main leave and see what does if add another, I'll try to find a write up real quick

What's better to have, 3.5" springs and 1" shackles, or 4.5" springs?

The longer shackle will give you more flex/droop offroad because it allows for further movement of the leaf spring. However, the longer shackle could give you a bad shackle angle, and the answer to that is relocation brackets.

Cool, I think instead of adding spacers and shackles to my already 3" lift, or buying a lift kit, I want to piece my own kit together. I'm thinking RE coils and springs.

Thinking about making my own re lift for my xj. Will it work if i buy RE 4.5" coil springs, the RE 4.5" leaf springs and RE adjustable superflex lower control arms with the other things like brake lines on u bolts. would this set up work. on a budget but want to get most bang for my buck.

Best bang for your buck... Rough country 4.5" with AAL's.

sure will. Components can be mixed and matched from anywhere.
