When it comes to doing a V8 ZJ tie rod upgrade, do i just need the tie rod itself or any of the other parts? Im not really sure what else goes with the Tie Rod. The ends too or will my stock ones work?

Default Control Arms

Ok so forgive me for not searching or reading 800+ pages here. While I have read some I can't find a direct answer to my question.
At what point do I need new control arms? I don't want much lift maybe 3-4 inches max. But looking at lifts I see some with control arms and some without. What gives? If you can add three inches of lift without control arms and everything is fine what would be the reason and benefit of purchasing the same lift with CA? Is it basically like buying a lift with an AAL as opposed to leaf packs?

Pretty much yeah. You're far better off spending a little more to get longer/adjustable LCA's and full leaf packs.

Well the reason I asked is I was considering doing the S10 bastard packs and the YJ coils up front. If I did that would I need to do anything else upfront? Longer sway bar links, Adj track bar, etc.? I hear everyone talking about doing this mod but only the coils are mentioned, nothing else. If replacing these other items would made a considerable improvement in ride and driveability as opposed to not then I will just spend the cash and buy a complete lift as oposed to piecing things together.

IMHO, swapping in v8zj coils isn't worth it. Your only gonna he an inch of lift, and they are gonna be stiff. A pair or log coils is only 100 dollars.

ok thanks for that heads up. So now Im back at my same question. Can I just throw a pair of long coils in it and forget it or should I change over other items as well. Basically I'm trying to figure out if I can just buy a few parts or will I be better off to just buy a complete kit thats actually designed for the vehicle.

You should get longer control arms, and an adjustable track bar, along with longer shocks and brake lines at 3 inches. 2 inches or less just swap coils.

Ok thanks man. Im thinking I want more like three or four inches anyway. 2" isnt hardly worth the effort. If I stay at 4 or under do I have to worry about anything else in the driveline? SYE etc?

I would do 3 inch no drive line problems, you can remount break lines, and you can keep your steering, control arms, and put that money into tires...
