What do you think of 31x10.5 tires on 15x8 wheels? She likes the look of the MT Baja MTZ tire. Purely for aesthetics, we'd like to run a 17" wheel, but it seems like most pics I see of similarly lifted XJ's look like they're running 15's.
Based on everybody's input, it looks like the RE 3.5 SUPERFLEX kit is the way we'll go.

I have to agree with solicit on this one. Lowrange2 gives sound mechanical advise, I rarely dissagree with anything he posts but the name of the thread is "All Lift & Tire questions go here!!!". The questions are always going to be the same. It may be basic to us but to a guy who putting a lift in his daughter's XJ I can assure you it's VERY serious to him.
Love my 8" rims.

Another question. Is there a favorite shock you all would choose? Should I stick with RE? If so, do you suggest their standard twin-tube, or jump up to the Extreme-Duty mono-tube? A stiff ride is okay.

17's look good but most people run a 15" rim. Cheaper tires.
MT Baja's are fine.
3.5" will be all you need.

Ok guys, last tire question out of me, and it's a "which one would you choose" type of question. I've narrowed it down to two.
Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 32x11.5x15
BFG KM2 33x10.5x15.
My XJ might see 5,000-8,000 miles a year on the street. Never on ice or in snow. I've just now got into "wheelin", so I've been taking it easy. Light trails and little rock, lots of mud.
I will be trimming both front and rear fenders and I will be eventually stepping up from 3" lift to 4.5".

Right, but I don't see that much of a weight difference between a 32x11.5 and a 33x10.5.
Ahh, screw it, 33 KM2's. My work needs to hurry up and issue our bonuses. Tires, front bumper and hopefully some adjustable LCA's.

my friend is building a budget xj pure offroad/mud toy and wants about 4 inches of lift but cheap any ideas or combo of parts that will stay under 400 bucks with shocks?
