This is all that website said " Wisconsin law says that vehicles with up to an 8,000-pound GVWR can be pushed 5 inches above the OE height, and the tires can be increased by up to 4 inches in radius over the factory size, equaling an acceptable 9-inch lift."
Wisconsin doesnt care about bumper height or any of that its just the height. There is a truck in wisconsin that has an insane lift and runs 48s and is street legal.

He can run a 2" lift on 36s, or a 4" at 32s or a 3" at 35s.
Id just take the gamble and go for what you want. How can they tell the amount of lift you have anyway? Do they carry vehicle specs and a tape measure?

I don't get the need to go that high. I have seen XJ's with 8-10" lift and they do ok on trails but if you really want that much height I don't think an XJ is the ideal vehicle to do it with.

Depends on the trails. And 8-10" lift better have bigger than 37s if you want stability. Full widths and 42s, maybe.

That's what I mean. If your going to go full width and 10" of lift then your in the full size Blazer/Bronco area. You can build one of those alot cheaper.

Hello to all today:
I am a 12 year jeep owner and have decided to spice my jeep up and keep it forever instead of buy a new car. I really dont four wheel except on beach some and my 2002 sport does better than any other truck and has never been stuck. In short, i love my car. I am not very mechanically inclined, but am willing to learn. I want to put new wheels and tires on it to look cooler. I have looked at wheels all night and like the look of the AEV 17x8.5 Pintler Wheels. Am i stupid? What would be a good tire recommendation for this? I was trying not to lift it. if i can get some cool answers and help with this i will join the group and upload photos and input regularly. hopefully you can deal with my newness to this. the wheel color of the ones available i was going to choose was argent. i have the steel blue 2002 sport. looking forward to becoming a jeep geek.
Thanks

Sorry. To help, the wheels are all about preference. You'll need new tires if you have the stock 15s currently.

I was also going to add that even though i may be a retard for just caring about looks, i am sure as a part of this movement to get more involved with my jeep i will start to care about performance too. so i am sorry for beginning as a shallow prom date but i promise to put out in the future.
Thanks
