You can get away without them. If you get back spaced wheels that are more than 5" youll need to trim the bottom of your fender flare though.

This is gonna sound stupid...but by more than 5" do you mean the wheel being too far outside the fender? or the actual measure of the backspacing (ie, 5.5" would be too big w/o trimming)?

the wheels i was looking at had 3.75" backspacing. i know i'll need to look at the possibility of trimming and also rubbing.

I have a 3" lift and 3.75 wheels. If you have the newer style bumpers(97 on) you will have to trim the end caps and a little off the back of the front flare. If you look at my build thread you can see how much I cut.

Sorry i say more backspacing meaning tires sticking out more. 3.75" BS means trimming the little lip on the bottom of the flares. Only in the front.

So you meant to say less backspacing, or a wider stance.

^For clarity's sake.

So I'm going to be a bit lazy here cause I really don't want to look through hundreds of pages of posts at midnight. So I want to put 30" tires on my xj. As of now it is stock, I the gearing part taken care of so my question is: how much of a lift so I need so I don't have to cut my fenders?

0-2" depending on the backspacing of your wheels.

I ran 30s stock, LT street tires, and I rubbed my control arms at full lock.

Hey guys right now I have the rc 4.5" xseries kit. I was planning on swapping out the coils for RE 5.5" coils and then running a lift shackle in the rear. Now I've read that RE coils actually make your rig sit higher then what they say. Is it true? Will it add only a 1" or so or is it going to be more like 2"? Any info would be great!
