Thats really what I meant. I honestly didn't know there was a difference. I figured down travel and flex are the same from what i've understood. From what I understand I'd need as long of a shock as I can get and bumpstop properly for the most "down travel".

Id much rather have my tire stop sooner and droop more than stuff it up to my fender cut

Yep. The rear fenders are tough but the tire will completely f-up the single-sheet front fenders. Especially if they're trimmed.

I need to get on the ball and add longer bump-stops on mine.

So just longer rear brake lines then?

Ya that's what I'm saying. I know Zone says they don't need bumpstops and that their springs are meant to be smashed but I'm assuming thats for smaller tires. If I'm going to have 33's does someone happen to know a rough guesstimate on home much more bumpstop I'll need if I cut up to the top of the metal part of the fender that sticks out? The "crease" in the metal you could call it.

Hello folks,

I am in the process of searching for a lift and thought I found one until someone told me some pretty disheartening things about it. I would, however, appreciate some insight from folks on an actual Cherokee forum about the lift and the company. The lift I was going to purchase was the 4.5" x-series rough country lift. I was told that the leafs fail on these pretty quickly and lose their flex so has anyone experienced issues like this when using rough country lifts?

For my second question, I need some information on tires. Would running a set of 33x12.50R15 tires be ok with a 4.5" lift or will I have to go higher? I have no issues trimming fenders if need be.

I'm trying to do everything right here and figure out what matches and what doesn't before spending lots of money on things just to find out it is all wrong.

Thanks guys

Lift size and springs don't matter. Bumpstopping is all about tire size and trimming. Your axle's highest articulation will still be at the bumpstops no matter how much you lift. If your tires are bigger than stock, they're gonna reach higher toward the fender.

Buy a rubicon express 4.5 inch lift, and be happy. The rough country leaves are too short, and cause issues with shackle angle wich makes for a terrible ride, poor offload performance.

Rough Country does have problems that they refuse to fix. Most people here will tell you not to buy from them. If you're looking for the cheaper companies, check out Zone Offroad.

At 4.5", you can run 33s no problem. I ran them on a 3" lift with some trimming, and I plan to put 35s on my Comanche with less lift and liberal grinding.

Well by the smaller tire size I meant that the tire will nicely tuck into the wheel well rather than smash into the fender. With a bigger tire and more b.s. the tire would smash into the fender now, hence needing more bumpstop. As fas as I know...

That there is a combination of tire width and wheel width and backspacing. The point is if you put on larger than stock tires, you need to extend your bumpstops.

Alright so the general tone of things is avoid rough country lol. I guess I'll just fork out the extra cash for some quality products. I hear nothing but good about RE so I'll probably go with them.

RE is excellent, and you won't be disappointed if you choose them.

XJ 4.5" Super-Flex w/ Rear Spring** -*RUBIC-RE6130

Now the website says it'll fit 33x10.5 tires. To fit 12.5 I'd need spacers or..?

I think that's the kit I'll get and it's on sale which is even better. Then I'll just need to get shocks for it which are quite expensive for the RE ones.
