Default Drop pitman

1 will the drop pitman and an adjustable track bar help my steering sloppiness?
2 can I use a drop pitman from a 4.5 kit with my 3 in lift? Or is that to much drop?
Facts 1999 XJ
3in skyjacker with new lower control arms, springs in front and rear blocks
Sway bar is still connected up front, not in rear
Steering stabilizer
31x10.50 (BFG now, soon to be MTR Kevlars)

a 3" lift isn't big enough to need a drop pitman arm....

the adjustable track bar or track bar relocation bracket or drilling new mounting holes will fix the bump steer and center the axle under the jeep.

when you say sloppy, are you able to turn the wheel a lot before the jeep actually responds or is it "squirrely" at highway speeds?

there are a bunch of steering joints with grease zerks, lube them up, that could help.

How's your caster? you have longer lower control arms, which increases your caster and reduces your steering responsiveness.

check the u-joints in your steering linkage, could be worn out?

I have a few questions.
1. I have a 3 in now and i want to upgrade to a 4.5. if i get the AAL 4.5, would that give me 4.5 in the rear with the 3 in AAL on already?
2. if i just use coil spacers and a bastard pack to get the 4.5 could i use my 3 in RC shocks, or do i need longer ones?
3. do i need a drop pitman arm for a 4.5?

Thanks guys!

yeas, you need a 1" drop pitman arm (feel free to correct me )

just get a 1.5" shackle and save your AAL money for a SYE, which you'll be needing at that lift height, and if you get some bar pin eliminators you will probably be able to use your old shocks.

so you currently have 3" AAL with the OEM XJ pack? how's it ride? Shouldn't sag unless you tow with it, or wheel with alot of gear in the back.

yeah, if you have a 3" lift now with no T-case drop and no vibes then you could most likely get away with 4.5" lift and a 1" t-case drop and maybe some 8 degree shims under your leafs.... its just your approaching SYE territory anything above 5"... it will just destroy U-joints without it. (but every jeep is different)

I have 3.5" and it vibed, so I slapped a t-case drop... it just shreds motor mounts, though.

why the 4.5".. if you trim your fenders at a 3" lift you can stuff 33's... and thats about the max tire size that you wanna run with stock gears... maybe 32's if you have a Dana 35.

An AAL will sag fairly quickly compared to full leaf packs, and even faster if you wheel/tow/flex on any sort of a regular basis. I've heard of more than one situation where someone had a really bad sagging AAL after only 6 months. Thats what motivated me to get full packs.

i'm not really looking to get 33's because its my DD. i just want to make it sit a little higher. i have been going wheeling a lot more so. Do you think if i just go with the coil spacer route, you think i could use my 3 in shocks?

I've searched and read a bit, but now looking for pics.

I have a set of 15x8s and I'm not lifting or trimming. I know I can run 30x9.5 but can't seem to find pics. Anyone have pics of a 30x9.5 on a 15x8? On or off an XJ, I'll take it! Thanks!

Also, anyone run without center caps? Wheels didn't come with any and I haven't ordered a set yet.

lots of people run without the centercaps, its just a matter of taste. if you look in my pics i had 15x8's on 235's if it helps any, although they offset too them and like 3 1/2 backspacing so they stick out alot farther than normal wheels

I have something of an amateur question: I have a 3.5" RE lift and I want to make it a 5" lift so my question is if I can make it a 5" lift and still make it a performance lift? (not puck & shackle) And how would I go about doing so?

On a 3 inch lift, do you need control arms? Why or why not?

Is add-a-leaf really THAT bad? I mean, people say they wear out, but is it just a loss of ride quality, or do they sag really bad after a while?

Thanks.
