I have a 98 XJ and presently it is sitting on a Zone 3 inch lift and I want to upgrade to a 4.5 inch lift. I read somewhere that zone's 3 inch lift coil springs are the same as their 4.5 inch lift springs. Does anyone know for sure? If this is the case what would I have to do to turn in into a 4.5 inch lift? In the front? In the rear?

Yeah, I didn't think that made sense but I'm kind of new to all this and it was worth confirming.
I don't need the bigger coils; I really just want to get some bigger tires in there. What would be a cheap way to get it to 4.5"? Are my control arms still going to be ok? The LCAs are aftermarket on the 3" lift.

Yes.
When you go up you can do spacers and shackles. Might need new shocks, brake lines, SYE and driveshaft, do something with your sway bar if you have one, and get an adjustable track bar.

Once I have the 4.5" lift I'm going to throw on some new tires and possibly some new wheels. Right now I have 31x10.5x15 duratracs and I want to go 33x12.5x15. Is there any hidden problems I might have with going that wide?

15x8 with 4" back spacing seems to be the consensus for that size. I've never had any rubbing from the width but I haven't increased my bump-stops yet and have fender damage at the top even though they're trimmed.

Bumpstop accordingly and you'll notice a drive-ability difference with the bigger tires.

Send that cheapo lift back and buy from a decent company. Tell them it doesn't sit level and you want your money back, then do some digging around this forum and decide what lift you want.
If they won't take it back, order new coils to match the rear, it'll be about a hundred bucks.

Either way, the kit is on and if anyone has constructive help id appreciate it.

I realize you can do 33s with a 3 inch lift, I just think it looks a little to stuffed and you have very little room for flex.

How would 4.5" of lift effect the way it handles on the road? I drive it on-road more often than off-road (unfortunately). Its not a DD but its what I use to get around.

Just be more careful. Its not a race car. There is a pretty big difference in driving any lifted vehicle compared to stock. Higher flipping chances. Ect
